Modern Combat Versus is an exciting new FPS that allows 4v4 combat in a multiplayer setting. Players must duke it out in a “King of the Hill” style game where all the players are fighting to take over a specific area. While the game could certainly benefit from more objectives to liven things up, this is an exciting starting point for the game. The navigation is smooth, and the game automatically fires for you when you aim appropriately. While it may sound like its stripping power from you to do the actual firing for you, it actually makes juggling all the controls easier, and still feels like you are in control.
First Multiplayer Modern Combat
In the past, games from the Modern Combat series have mostly been solo affairs like Call of Duty. Modern Combat Versus changes everything by making the game online only and multiplayer. This is very unique for the series, but there’s still room for growth.
The game has also been optimized for the phone or ipad, but you’ll need one of the latest phones or ipads to truly take advantage of the game. It requires a lot of power to run, and older phones may not be able to keep up with the requirements of the game.
Blending of games
Modern Combat Versus feels like someone crossed Call of Duty with Overwatch. If you’re a big fan of FPS games you’ll probably feel a thrill of excitement when you hear this—but don’t get too excited yet. While the game definitely has potential with where it can go, it doesn’t really feel complete.
The biggest flaw of the game is that it doesn’t feel like there is enough to do in the game. With just one objective, the only way to really get ahead or ‘win’ is to utilize the tools in the store.
The game is still fun enough without these tools, but the push in this direction feels simple and cheap. This could change if the game adds an update or two adding some depth to the game, but as it stands right now the game feels very lite.
No crouch or jump
One other minor issue with the game is that it doesn’t offer the typical abilities of an FPS. It doesn’t allow you to go prone, crouch, jump or anything else besides a fast sprint. This makes you a much easier target for other players, and also takes away many of the most common skill based tactics.
There are a few other FPS options out there that are simply more fun to play. While the game has a lot of perks with its mobile optimized navigation and multiplayer combat, it needs to have a bit more in the way of content before it can truly be a contender for the crown of best mobile shooter. The ability to use more positions to hide, or more goals for the game, would highly benefit this FPS to make it the best it can be.
- Decent graphics
- Hours of playability
- Freemium options are pushed in the game
- Needs more content
