For some, the improvements in any sports franchise series may seem minimal and not worth the effort. There are several cases where this is wholly applicable, and I couldn’t agree with them more. NBA 2K11 proves that its entirely possible to keep a good thing going no matter long you do it as long as its done with a great deal of dedication, creativity, and taking in past criticism. To say the least, 2K11 is one of the best sporting video games that’s ever been made and that still holds up just as well today. From the Jordan, Blacktop, and Playoffs/Season modes, to the terrific My Player and player creation capabilities, there are a seemingly endless number of things to love about this game and it just keeps on giving.
Become a Legend
NBA 2K11 is not only an in-depth experience but is also presented in an equally fleshed out manner. The new game modes that can either create a well-rounded, believable progression or can give you a crazy, wild basketball experience unlike ever before. This isn’t as integral to the gameplay, but the overall UI of the game is a huge step up from 2K10. Previously, the menus all felt a bit messy, under polished, and a bit confusing. This time around, each menu has been streamlined and the in-game stats/other menus are easy to understand. The classic season mode, either online or solo, are just as good as always. You’re able to play 29, 58, or 82 matches each season and can use your own player too.
The real fun, for me, came in with the huge focus on Michael Jordan himself with the all new list of Jordan Challenges. I won’t lie, this list is insane and difficult to overcome unless you’re quite skilled. Not only that, but they are all based on real feats this basketball legend pulled off himself, like scoring 63 points while being over 50% in field goals. It’s a neat set of challenges that will keep you engaged and constantly improving your game to match that of the champ.
With all of these new and likable improvements outside of the actual gameplay, it was no surprise that the basketball experience was more refined than ever. For those of you looking for a difficult challenge, there’s nothing in here that I would say is on par with games like FIFA 16 or NHL 20, but the Jordan Challenges are sure to give you a run for your money. Plus, the biggest piece of 2K11 is that its incredibly fun above all else.
Blacktop, Team-Ups, and online play are all at the top of their game in terms of performance and the online gameplay is solid (if you can find a match, anyways). There are plenty of realistic bits of realism in this game, but its way more centered around creating a fun experience.
Not only is this one of the best NBA 2K games of all time, it can easily be classified as one of the best sports games ever made. Even if sports video games aren’t your thing, give this one a chance.
