NYKRA

NYRKA is a game developed by ENDESGA, it is a 2D platformer that is set to release in July 2021. The game has been community-approved by Steam and is on the edge of release, this is a milestone for this indie project that was developed through crowdfunding via kickstarter, for those that pledged and have kept up to date with the game’s evolution it is nearly time to finally experience this new world.

The game will be exclusively for computers at launch and will arrive for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The game is very light and will run on most machines, even though NYKRA has a simple aesthetic, it already has conquered two awards in 2018, three years before release, it was the winner of Play By Play’s 2018 “That Audiovisual Smorgasbord”, and “That World We Didn't Want To Leave” awards. And these are just a couple of reasons to get excited about the game.

The Source of Everything

Before Nykra there was nothing. Nykra was the first galaxy to be born, and players explore this intriguing place as Keu, the main protagonist who was born in a place that antecedes and succeeds in everything. Our protagonist is accompanied by Eo, and hyperdrone that acts as your companion and weapon, which can be modified and customized extensively to help you navigate Nykra.

The game tells the story of a “Great Darkness” which the “7 Beings” cannot see. Her journey is filled with situations that require her free will, compassion, and empathy, to resolve. The world-building is vast and encompasses multiple planets that have been filled with chaos. This narrative-driven game relies heavily on its eccentric storytelling mixed with patterns, enigmas, puzzles, and travels to engage players, and by the premise of the story alone it sounds like a must-play game.

On top of that, the story is infused with rich details about literature, history, and new alien languages. As Keu explores life, love, and looks for her place in this reality she’s also tasked with understanding and exploring this “dark virus” and “Unseeable Darkness” that threatens to completely corrupt the fabric of the Heptaverse.

A Colorful World

Nykra is an extremely colorful title, with very distinctive level designs. The pixelated visuals harmonize beautifully with the weapons and combat effects portrayed throughout the campaign. With large continents and numerous rooms and mysteries to solve, this beautiful game seems very enticing.

Ultimately, the game has very simple controls, friendly user interfaces, and some RPG elements, such as the inventory system, which creates the possibility to sell, find and create items. The non-linear gameplay, the handcrafted story, and the consequences of your actions that echo through the game are all compelling reasons to go and explore this world.

Conclusion

Games are always interesting whenever they have such deep-rooted connections to the community. Especially when the audience helps to fund, and can partake directly in the development through open communication with devs.
