If you’re a fan of the anime, One Piece: World Seeker will let you step right into the shoes of the main character and enjoy life in their world. This open world game places you on an island with both new and familiar characters from the storyline. If you’re an anime lover, One Piece: World Seeker is a story that may be of great interest to you.
Great main storyline
World Seeker’s storyline was written by series creator Eiichiro Oda. His efforts are not disappointing. The rich, complex storyline unfolds in a beautiful way, unraveling to reveal new and surprising twists along the way. Essentially, you and your band of Straw Hats land on Prisoner Island in search of a mysterious treasure. Your team splits up in search of the treasure, only to discover that it isn’t there after all. Instead, the rumor of treasure was a trap prepared by the prison warden of the island.
The team must now find each other and escape Prisoner Island. Not so easy as the story progresses. If you’ve ever played Dragon Ball Fighter Z, you can expect the storyline to be as well developed and as true to the fan base.
Boring but voluminous side quests
One thing holding back an otherwise great storyline is the sheer amount of boring, useless, side quests you have to complete in order to get to a new chunk of story. The game is 20+ hours, but most of that isn’t going to be edge of the seat entertainment. Instead you’ll be fetching items for one guy, or defeating a minor bad guy.
Unfortunately, defeating bad guys isn’t all that difficult either, with only 2 fight modes available. It doesn’t especially matter which fight mode you use, as both will let you win by mashing the punch button until the fight is complete. Mostly, upgrades don’t matter either except for convenience in playing the game, such as upgrading rockets that allow you to fly across the island instead of walk. These make the game a lot more convenient and fun, with the fun being dulled by snipers in areas that would seem the most enjoyable to fly in.
Exquisite Graphics and Sound
The game has show stopping art and sound, with cut scenes for major chapters of the game rendered well enough to impress any fan of the anime. The voice actors are also well done and do justice to favorite characters with their energy and tone.
One Piece: World Seeker isn’t anything new or revolutionary to the gaming world. It doesn’t bring anything exciting to open world format, and gameplay can be slow due to its overuse of sidequests. The story itself however, is definitely something One Piece fans won’t want to miss out on.
If you’re a fan of the anime, this game is worthy of being added to your collection. If you were looking for a fast paced storyline that will leave you holding your breath until the next twist, you may want to find something a bit faster.
