Now and then, a game so impressive, so beautiful appears and it gives strength to saying that videogames can be a form of art too. Ori and The Blind forest is that kind of game, literally a ray of light that seems to come straight from paradise. This majestic masterpiece comes straight to the PC and Xbox One with the highest quality and most beautiful style, worthy of being on the top with the most amazing animated movies.
Even with the coverage given to the game, it could still be considered underlooked, thanks to its amazing quality and beautiful realization. Let's talk about the masterpiece brought to us thanks to Moon Studios and published by Microsoft.
About the game
There's beauty in the simplicity of Ori and The Blind Forest's plot. We play the role of Ori, a small being of light who's the son of the great spiritual tree. We must go on a mission to bring the light back into our precious forest, restoring the three elements and preventing a catastrophe. This is not an easy task, for there are evil beings that don't want the light back, and there's danger around every corner.
A piece of art
Even though most of the game works out as a Metroidvania, the platformer elements are also very well developed and strongly applied throughout every corner of the adventure. The plot is very simple, but the narrative of the game is on par with that of the best Studio Ghibli movies. But it's not only the narrative but also the art quality and animations are some of the most beautiful we've ever seen in gaming.
A truly living painting, Ori and The Blind Forest quickly stand out from the crowd. Even though Ni no Kuni is practically a Studio Ghibli game, Ori and the Blind Forest gives more the feel of an animated movie. There's pretty much nothing to complain about regarding this game.
Remember that magical feeling you got when playing your first The Legend Of Zelda Game? An amazing experience, pretty hard to replicate, but Ori and The Blind Forest does exactly that. These titles have nothing in common, at least not from a gameplay point of view. But it's in the experience, where the magic of Ori and The Blind Forest start. Beautiful artwork, masterfully animated and turned into a game narrative with some excellent adventure elements. A true ray of light for the gaming world.
Graphics and Visuals: We can't stress enough just how beautiful the visual aspect of this game is. We've mentioned this many times already, but it's easily one of the most majestic games we've seen. A real masterpiece for the gaming world.
Gameplay: The gameplay, just like the story, is simple, yet incredibly fulfilling and satisfying. A great adventure filled with danger, puzzles and problems to solve. It's not that the controls are good, but they are simply perfect. They allow us to be precise enough to overcome all of the puzzles in the game, you'll just need to practice. It's challenging, but a completely rewarding and enjoyable experience
Sound: The soundtrack in this game feels magical, out of this world. Completely in touch with the whole atmosphere present in the entire game. Perfect for this title, as well as for listening on its own.
