Pikmin 4

Pikmin 4 is what’s expected to be the title in the next entry for the series. That is, of course, if it does come out. The game is supposed to be in development for over six years now, and little has been heard about it. Nintendo has been very secretive about its development for a long time now, and the fans have been patiently waiting for a real new entry in the series for years now.

But we shouldn't lose hope just yet, and that's why we are trying to make a small compilation of what we know so far about it. Of course, since it's been so many years and so much has changed since the original announcement, a lot of this information could eventually become useless. Unless the Japanese company comes out sometime soon to give us an update, at least a small one.

The early days

The legendary Nintendo Developer Shigeru Miyamoto announced and confirmed the development of Pikmin 4 all the way back in 2015. In those days the Wii U was the home console for Nintendo. Sadly, despite the great games they released for it, it was a commercial failure and didn't last too long.

They released a Pikmin game for the 3DS but it wasn't’ a main for the series, but rather a spin-off. It was again at the 2017 E3, that Miyamoto would tell Eurogamer that he was not supposed to share anything about the title, but he only confirmed that it was “progressing”

The last main series game

Pikmin 3 was released for the Wii U in 2013, and despite the lack of success of the console, this title sold extremely well. and showing that the fanbase of the series was still very much alive, and it was still numerous.

After the release of the 3DS spin-off, fans speculated that the new Pikmin 4 would be released for the, at the time upcoming, Nintendo Switch. And last year, in 2020, seven years after the release of Pikmin 3, they actually launched the game for the Switch.

This news launch was a little controversial and divided a little the fanbase of the gardening game. On one hand, some fans were excited to be able to experience one of their favorite games once again and this time in the incredible hybrid console. Especially since they added a little bit of new content.

On the other hand, some fans were disappointed that Nintendo went ahead and just released the same old game they had already played seven years before. And not only that, but it was also a full-price game, with very little new content added.

Furthermore, Nintendo made a sneaky move, by removing the digital version of Pikmin 3 from the Wii U eshop. There the game was already selling for a much lower price, but now it can no longer be downloaded.

Expected release date

There’s no telling when this Pikmin 4 will be released, the last time we actually heard anything from a Nintendo official about the title was in 2017 now. We can’t actually confirm that it is even coming out for the Nintendo Switch, or if it’s going to be released for Nintendo’s next console.
