Rise of Liberty

If you enjoy your history and old timey guns, Rise of Liberty is a game that you will probably have a fair bit of fun with. From what I can tell, what we have with the game right now is the complete version as there has not been any updates for well over a year as of writing. However, I do have to say that there is a lot for you to do in this game and if you are a fan of tv shows about stuff like The American revolution, you will get a kick out of what is on offer here.

The British Are Coming, The British Are Coming

As Rise of Liberty is based on The American Revolution, you will not be taking part in a deep and engaging story here. Instead, what we have is a series of classic battles that actually took place and you get to experience them. I am someone who loves watching history shows on places like the History Channel or The Discovery Chanel so I thought getting to experience these battles that I have read about and seen documentaries in a game was pretty cool.

All Going Down On The Battlefield

Now, I do have to say that Rise of Liberty is a game that I think is made by just one dude and this does show in the presentation. I like the kind of 90s early 00s PC game style the game has and it is something I feel is a lot of fun. I also think it is very impressive how many characters there can be on the screen at any given time, especially with all the gunfire, explosions, and so on happening. My PC did drop frames every now and again, but it never spoiled things for me or anything like that.

Get Ready For War

The whole point of a game like Rise of Liberty is to thrust you into the heart of battle and this game certainly does just that. You can just watch the battles if you want or you can get in there. I think the old-style flint and lock weapons you use are a lot of fun, but you also have things like cannons, the cavalry and so on that, you can call upon in battle. When you are just one guy on the battlefield, I feel that the game does a great job of making you feel like a very small cog in the war machine, but this does also mean that it can feel like what you are doing has very little effect.

I’M A Survivor, I’M Gonna Make It!

Yep, Destiny’s Child is what I just referenced there! Anyway, I have always been a real sucker for a good survival mode in games like this, and Rise of Liberty has a Siege Mode where the basic idea is to just survive for as long as you can! I have had so much fun with this and rather than playing through an actual historical battle scenario, this is where I have had the most enjoyment out of the game if I am being honest with you.

7.5

I know that a game like this is certainly not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I really did find myself having a lot of fun with this game. I thought that the way Rise of Liberty was themed around the American Revolution was really cool and the historical battles that we could partake in were a great deal of fun. I do feel that there is not a ton of content here and while I did spend more than a few hours with the game, I am pretty sure that I have had my fill.

Pros:

  • I liked the historical setting of the game
  • The visuals are something that I got a kick out of
  • It does a great job of making you feel like you are on a massive battlefield
  • The game is very cheap

Cons:

  • I do wish there was a bit more story here
  • There is not really anything that makes you want to come back and play it over and over again
