Rogue Company

Rogue Company is a third-person competitive shooter game developed by First Watch Games and published by Hi Rez Studios. The game was released as a beta in 2020 to some excellent reviews, primarily due to cross-play features and likeness to other massively successful battle royale games. Rogue Company is now fully available to play for free on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam for PC.

Join The Team Of Rogues

The game has much in common with Fortnite Battle Royale and Valorant. Like any good battle royale game, Rogue Company comes equipped with an intriguing cast of playable characters to choose from. These 18 different characters, or “Rogues,” have their own unique weapons, perks, and skins. While none of the Rogues are profoundly unique in their character design, they all have great moves and weapons. From Phantom’s deadly sniper to Lancer’s stealthy takedowns, there are tons of gameplay options for whichever way you want to play.

While some games tout incredibly overpowered avatars or significant leveling up via microtransactions (with “Rogue Bucks”), each of the Rogues feels balanced in their buffs and design. Many possible microtransaction purchases are also available through gameplay, so most of the items can be unlocked with patience alone. Notably, the company stated at their kickoff event that any included DLC would exclusively be cosmetic, saying, “there’s no play to win here.”

Small But Mighty Team

In addition to plenty of characters to explore, the game has a small but active team of developers troubleshooting any in-game bugs. While there were a few bizarre glitches during the initial release in 2020, the game has seen massive improvements in the last year. In fact, one of the patches released by developers over at First Watch Games patched over 250 glitches within a single update!

The developers are also actively involved in community engagement by releasing poles on Twitter and other social media to get players involved in new updates and patches. They base half of the updates on what the community wants to implement. In addition to prompt updates, Rogue Bucks are not too hard to come by. There are no daily log-ins necessary, and you can gradually earn them for free over time the more you play.

Plenty of Unique Environments

The multiplayer modes and scenes are thoroughly enjoyable, with plenty of maps to explore. There are four different game types and 11 different maps to choose from, each with its own perks for the various game types. For example, you can play in the Strikeout game mode, where you and your entire team have to capture a point on the map while sharing the same set of lives.

An Updated Battle Royale

Some players have noted that matchmaking can sometimes take a little while, up to several minutes, to get started. However, with more and more players joining every day, this shouldn’t be too big of an issue for anyone. Additionally, the frame rate can lag on older-gen consoles, but next-gen users shouldn’t experience any problems after the more recent patches.
