The first thing to note about Sea Dogs Legendary Edition is that it tends to give you the chance to sail the seven seas and enjoy yourself while doing so. Each trip that you undertake is going to be one built around trying to build a crew that can become famous in the 1650s setting. You will sail around the region, you will fight against other pirates and the law, and you will make friends – even form romances – with the people that you meet.

Your job is simple: plunder treasure and find a way to survive in what is an increasingly changing world. fight back against other ships, take their stuff, and set off on both sea and land to find treasured buried deep. This is an open game that is built around giving you a game with over ten years of DLCs, patches, and general improvements to what is a very well-worked gameplay loop.

From building up your own colony to many new quests and personal stories for your companions and the people you love, Sea Dogs Legendary Edition takes a classic and rebuilds most aspects to make them more enjoyable than ever before.

A delightful (if dated) sea adventure (8/10)

By taking all of the content available for the original Sea Dogs, this Legendary Edition packs it all together into an improved gameplay engine and with better visuals. Sure, it can still look dated compared to most modern big-budget releases, but for a mid-tier game that was made many years ago this does a fine job of bringing to life what made Sea Dogs so much fun for those who played it back in the day.
