Naval Action by Game-Labs is a stunningly realistic combat game set entirely on the ocean. Set in a time when the world was run by those with the best ships and the better crew. This game takes a good look at our strong naval history in ‘The Age of Sail.’ Lower the sails and let’s sail right into the storm.
Gameplay
The entirety of the gameplay takes place on the high seas. With advanced wind and physics, this game provides a portrayal realistic of an ‘age of sail’ ship. You must maintain simple things throughout to ensure you are quick and efficient. Ship angle to wind, yard angles, ship conditions and more are all managed to ensure you win battles. But there’s way more to it than simple shit to ship warfare.
Admiralty missions gain you doubloons, combat medals and reward chests by delivering cargo or passengers. Join patrols and hunt other ships throughout the West Indies.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this was the ability to trade captured ships. Becoming a privateer and board enemy ships, kill everyone on board and steal it. Taking it to a nearby port and trade it and its cargo in for more doubloons. It pays to be bad.
Ship building and manufacturing also exists in this title, allowing you to build ships, cannons and further upgrades. You can supply your team, nation or even set up business in a port town and sell to anyone who is interested.
Detail
An astonishing amount of detail has been put into the ships and the water movement. The ships can look photo realistic in some scenes. Every cannonball is tracked and when it hits its mark, realistic damage occurs as a result. Such detail has been put into structural damage that a well aimed cannon can cause leaks and torn sales to demisting and even neutralising enemy cannons if you’re a good enough shot. I’ve seen this sort of ship damage detail once before in Sea of Thieves, but the gameplay surrounding naval combat was quite different.
On the front of what you want your own ship to look like, look no further. You have a choice of over 50 ships and there are customisation options, all the way down to what sort of wood fits the characteristics of your future frigate.
Multiplayer
An apparent strong suit to this game and many like it are those sweet, sweet PVP activities. Engage in intense sea battle to dominate the West Indies. Attack other nations, ships and clans by yourself or with your nation and clan to see who’s the most worthy sea farer. Together you can create trade outposts and control taxes in the ports governed by your clan. Together; you can do so much more.
There has been a great level of detail into this game to make it as realistic and satisfying to create a really interesting and immersive game about life on the high seas.
