Dragon's Dogma 2

We all love a good role-playing game that can captivate us and have us exploring a vast landscape for hours on end. When it comes to immersion, few genres can challenge a good RPG for the title of best in show. So when the news came that Capcoms RPG IP Dragon’s Dogma was set to receive a sequel to the iconic original Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen, it would be an understatement to say that fans were stoked.

This game plays like a mesh of the two most popular RPG formats available right now. On one hand, it plays rather like Skyrim with its action-heavy combat, while on the other hand, it plays rather like the RPGs that require more meticulously planned attacks and tactics such as Divinity, Kingdom Of Amalur or Dragon Age. It has the potential to blend these two approaches as it did once before and deliver to fans a blockbuster RPG that they have been longing for.

What We Know

At the moment we know very little about what is planned for this title other than the fact that is it’s likely to be a title that will be produced for next-gen consoles. When asked at a conference which was being held for Devil May Cry 5 about the possibility of a new Dragons Dogma Game being on the horizon, Izuna replied: “We consider Dragons Dogma to be an important property but that is all that I can say right now.”

What this indicates is that Capcom is unwilling to announce plans for this game right now. This is likely due to the fact that the project is in its infancy as they have only finished work on Devil May Cry 5 in 2019. Due to the highly anticipated release of next-gen consoles set for release around the holidays this year, it is unlikely that the game will be produced for the PS4 and Xbox One. So fans will have to wait until the next generation of gaming arrives for further updates.

It is rumoured that the team working on this project will be roughly about 90 senior developers with 50 of which being based in Japan. It is also suggested that proceedings have already begun to form this title, however, Izuna will not be on-site to work on the project until February or March 2021 at the earliest, which gives us further scope as to when we can expect to gather more information on this title.

All Aboard The Hype Train

What we do know for sure is that this title will be a highly anticipated one for both avid fans and casual RPG fans alike. There are waves coming out of Capcom that this title will be one of the most ambitious games that have ever been produced by this studio and will be grand in terms of scale, spectacle and details making it ideal for role-playing.
