The South Korean video game industry is a really fast-growing one, making a lot of sense. The entire country is one of the biggest when it comes to tech and gaming audiences, so making huge video games was the clear next step, especially if it is a competitive one we are talking about. And a competitive one it is, as The First Descendant is a free-to-play, shooter RPG in third-person. Developed by NEXON Games, this impressive title is made using the amazing modern Unreal Engine 5. So, what is it all about? Well, let's talk about it!

About the game

The First Descendant puts us in the shoes of a warrior in a post-apocalyptic world. Our mission is clear: to protect humanity and the Ingris Continent from a dangerous invasion. We are also asked to discover the secret of The Descendants in a carefully crafted dystopian story. What is most striking about The First Descendant is its setting (which will look amazing thanks to Unreal Engine 5). It reminds us of Destiny, Gears of War, or even Outriders.

Nexon Korea's title will be free to play and will work on a seasonal basis. We will be able to play solo or join three other players (online) to defeat hordes of enemies and complete expeditions, as we level up.

Nexon confirms that there will be different classes and characters to choose from. As in other hero shooters, our heroes will have exclusive skills, hooks, a varied arsenal, and different combat styles (which will be key when facing bosses).

We also have to mention that the customization is huge and very varied, not only in the aesthetic elements but also in many ways that will actually affect the gameplay experience. We can equip our characters to carry three guns, four secondary pieces of equipment, and a bunch of secondary weapons. The possibilities are as huge as the game itself.

The game revolves around two types of missions, ones that are global missions, which are centered on multiplayer and boss battles; and stage missions, which will allow us to enjoy the game in a single-player mode without the constant fear of being obliterated.

Truly astonishing

Based only on the gameplay of The First Descendant, which looks really spectacular. We can see that the graphics, mechanics, and gameplay are very reminiscent of titles like Outriders for example, but the game aspires to have its own identity with very fast and frantic mechanics.

Imagine that we mix Destiny, add the madness of Vanquish, and a little bit of Gears of War here and there, and add the best graphics we may have seen in a shooter of this caliber, and we get The First Descendant.

The First Descendant has everything it takes to be an instant classic, and it is certainly one we hope to see flourish into all its potential glory. Since it is heavily based on its multiplayer element, the game's success will depend a lot on having an active player base and to do this they'll have to carry a lot of events and keep it renewed constantly. We just hope that the studio is ready for this, if they are, they could have one of the biggest games we've seen in recent years in their hands.
