Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

I have to say that Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is one of my most anticipated games of 2022. As I write this the game is not yet out, but I am so excited about this game I just had to talk about it and try to get more people excited about this. I have been a fan since I was a kid in the 80s. I saw both movies, loved the cartoon, had the toys, and even cried when they ran out of kid’s meals that were made to promote the second movie, so I am a pretty big fan of the franchise.

New Ghostbuster on the Block

The premise of Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is that you are working for Winston, yes the Winston complete with voice acting from Earnie Hudson. He and Ray (yep, Dan Akroyd is here too) are going to help a new team of Ghostbusters fight off ghosts and keep the people of New York City safe. They have done a great job in nailing the wackiness and humor that Ghostbusters is known for and I am excited to see how the story in each mission unfolds.

That Ghostbuster Charm

I have to say that visually, the game looks decent and captures the look and feel of the Ghostbusters very well. In many ways, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed looks very similar to the 2009 Ghostbusters The Video Game which is awesome by the way. Things look detailed enough and I love the particle effects when using the proton packs! The voice acting and sound design in the game is amazing! It sounds just like the movie and getting two of the three living Ghostbusters on board is awesome, although I do hope that Bill Murry will be in here too.

I Aint Afraid Of No Ghosts!

This is a four vs one style of game and in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed you of course do get to play as a Ghostbuster. You can play with up to three buddies, but if you do not have that many people wanting to play, an AI teammate will help out. You have your PKE meter to try and track the ghost, your proton pack to blast it and a trap to catch it. Each map has you hunting down the ghost and trying to catch it. The ghost has a series of rifts that are hidden on each match, you need to find and destroy these or the ghost can respawn.

Be Your Own Ghost!

Of course, playing as an actual Ghostbuster is just part of the fun with Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. One player will get to play as an actual ghost and from what we have seen so far, there are numerous ghosts that you can play as. When you are playing as a ghost your main goal is to haunt the map so much that the AI humans run away scared if you scare away all the humans, you win. You can haunt objects to move them, use slime, call in smaller ghosts, and have a lot of fun trying to scare people. You are trying to avoid being trapped, but if you have a rift left, you can always respawn back into the battle.

Pros:

• This has a very authentic Ghostbusters feel to it
• I love how they have Earnie Hudson and dan Akroyd in the game
• Playing as a Ghostbuster is going to be so much fun
• I like how they have also made playing as a ghost be a lot of fun too

Cons:

• If you are not into Ghostbusters, it may not be as charming for you
• I do wonder what the story linking it all together will be like
