The Voice in the Void

The Voice In the Void is one of those games you’ll enjoy only if you are part of a small niche of players. It’s not meant for everyone, but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad product. Quite the opposite; it’s a unique game that will make you feel happy after a while. It’s funny, it’ll make you laugh, and you’ll enjoy it if you don’t take it seriously.

The Gameplay

The Voice In the Void is pretty simple; It’s a Timing-based RPG where you’ll have to have quick reflexes to deal the most damage. All the battles are pretty simple, so the game doesn’t have a real challenge; it’s more of a game where you’ll enjoy the story rather than the gameplay, which is very slow-paced.

The over-world gameplay is also very slow-paced (can the characters run?), and you’ll have to solve puzzles and explore a lot to continue.

At least the gameplay isn’t bugged at all and it’s well-programmed, which is something people always appreciate in an indie game with a very small budget as it is this one.

The Visuals and Music

The Voice in the Void is a game with strange, bizarre, and weird visuals. The design is pretty childish in a way, but at the same time, it can make you feel uncomfortable at times. Nonetheless, you’ll get used to it after a while.

There are big green monsters with long tongues, cloth-shaped ghosts, and birds with weird legs. It draws a lot of inspiration from Undertale. The ambiance is also pretty sketchy sometimes, and overall, you can easily define this title as a random show of figures, beasts, and monsters. It uses many resources like hands everyone, small dotted eyes, and excentric body shapes to unset the player, in a good way.

The music is sometimes annoying as it’s an 8-bit, chiptune-y constant melody that can tire you after a long time. Nonetheless, it has some interesting and catchy tunes here and there.

It’s unfair to be harsh with a game that a single person developed and did only for the sake of creating a game. It’s a game done with passion and love for creating stories, and you can see how much the developer, GriffinSnow, loves to create stories if you visit his second game, A Column In the Sea, which is way better than The Voice In the Void, and deserves a lot of attention.

It’s fair to say this game was developed by a single person, and it was their first project, so the game and the developer, together, have a lot of chances to progress in the future.

The Voice in the Void can’t be taken seriously, because you won’t enjoy it. Just take it as a project a person did for love, and you’ll feel like this is a good and entertaining game.
