Relive one of the most intricate and fascinating sci-fi worlds ever created in Dune: Awakening. Long-time fans of this captivating media franchise will be glad to hear that this game will finally let fans live their dream adventures – or nightmares – in the vastness of Arrakis.
An ambitious open-world survival MMO, Dune: Awakening, might feel all too familiar for a niche set of fans, but it still feels fresh thanks to its impressive world-building and off-the-charts production values. That said, be ready to spend a good chunk of your free time lost in the sands of Arrakis: this game might soon prove to be more of a part-time job than anyone would have thought.
Following the footsteps of games like Conan: Exiles, Dune: Awakening is an open-world massively-multiplayer online survival RPG title. However, this game proves that the worst danger you can expect in the unforgiving world of Dune is the world itself.
Arrakis is a harsh place: way too rough to survive alone. Forming alliances and building shelters are the only means of surviving the constant hits dealt by the planet's most brutal deserts.
Cooperation might be essential in Dune: Awakening, but that doesn't mean that every player you meet will always be friendly. Once resources run low, the true nature of your alliances will be put to test.
Much like in the films and novels, spice is one of Arrakis' most valuable customs. Most of the wars that you'll fight through involve the valuable commodity – so always be ready for the unexpected once a cargo of spice is on the line.
As the single most important resource on the planet, spice also acts as a meter to determine the cumulative worth of a player Those who control the largest spice harvests will rule the lands – but they'll also have to keep an eye out, for they'll also be the frequent target of raiders and rival factions.
Additionally, collecting spice comes with a variety of unexpected side effects that can help you in your quest for power.
While the nomad lifestyle might sound appealing in the world of Dune: Awakening, building the ultimate base of operations quickly becomes the sole objective in the game. Perhaps the only thing tougher than building a solid base is keeping it safe from the many dangers of Arrakis.
It might seem like only raiders and other players will be the only things to keep on your radar, but don't forget that the greatest threat of them all lurks under the desert sands. I'm talking, of course, of the iconic Dune sandworms.
Surviving a sandworm is the ultimate test in this game, and every encounter with them is every bit as epic as it is in the source material. Perhaps my only gripe with them is how easy it is to lose everything you've been building to some random happening. That's the world of Dune, I guess.
Dune: Awakening offers fans of the franchise the chance to live some of the most epic MMORPG adventures they've seen, as they face the ruthless world of Arrakis together.
