Wario Land 4
If I had to write a list of Game Boy Advance games that I felt deserved more attention, Wario Land 4 would be on that list. This is the first Wario Land game to be released on the Game Boy Advance, with the previous game being released for the Game Boy Color.
Wario The Hero?
The story of the game is rather funny. A strange pyramid has appeared in the jungle and there is some weird story about a princess and a Golden Diva who is more money crazed than Wario is. That is all Wario needs to hear and he heads off to get himself some of that treasure.
A Lot Of Variety
Wario Land 4 features four different worlds. These have multiple levels in them and each world has its own theme. There is a nature world, toy world, technology world and horror world. As well as one final one too. There is a great deal of variety to the stages and each one looks amazing. I really like the way the horror-themed levels look; this really shows what a powerhouse the Game Boy Advance was when it came to 2D sprites.
Wario is no longer immortal and he now has a series of hearts. This means you can only take so much damage before you die. This is great as it makes this the most challenging of the first four Wario Land games. Each level has a ton of stuff for you to collect. There is, of course, the regular treasure which you can then use to buy mini-games and even stuff to help you through the game. there are also things that you “have” to get as these are required for you to progress through the game.
Classic Wario Gameplay
Playing Wario Land 4 on the Game Boy Advance is just so much fun. The levels are very well designed and when Wario gets “hurt” and he transforms, it adds a great deal of strategy to the game. Wario can be set on fire, turned into a zombie and inflated to name a few. These can come in really handy for example being on fire can allow you to get through certain blocks. It is a clever way of giving Wario abilities without just doing the same kind of thing that Mario does.
I love Wario Land 4. It is a damn solid platformer and one that those of us who have played will always promote and tell people how much fun it is. It is not the longest game in the world, but I do feel that many people will get addicted to trying to find every bit of treasure each level has to offer. While some may just think of the Mario Advance series or the Sonic Advance series when it comes to the Game Boy Advance, Wario Land 4 deserves to be in the same conversation with those games.
- The story is a lot of fun
- I love the different transformations Wario can do
- It is way more challenging than the previous game
- It looks fantastic
- Each area has its own theme which is great
- While more challenging, it is still not super hard
- Does not get the credit it deserves
