RED ALERT! RED ALERT! The Federation's orbitt'ng space station has been overrun by evil Xybot warriors! Immediate action must be taken to regain control of this vital element of the Federation's space colonization program. The future of the entire human race is in jeopardy!
In Xybots, you alone, or alongside a Comlynxed partner, will be beamed aboard the huge station to exterminate the Xybot infestation. Armed with only an energy pack, a laser blaster, and your own blood 'n guts, you must work your way through a massive 52-level space station full of robot sentries, tanks, hovering attack drones, and dead-ends perfect for an ambush. You must either find the Exit or a Warp Transporter in order to advance to the next level. Your goal is a showdown with the Final Master Xybot.
Xybots paints a first person, three-dimensional perspective of the action as you move anywhere you wish within the mazelike passages of the space station. In a two-player game, each player gets their own first person perspective of the action and moves independently of each other.
Your energy pack is your lifeline. Each shot you fire, every hit you take, and the longer you take to complete a level, all deplete your energy level. Your game is over once you run out of energy, and there are no continues! Fortunately, invaluable energy orbs are scattered throughout each level to give you a vital shot of juice!
You have two exceptionally powerful weapons in your arsenal. One is the super Zap ray, which takes out every nasty on-screen, but it uses an exorbitant amount of energy. The other is the Auto-Mapper, which provides you with an overhead view of your position on a level and also details the position of every enemy, bonus item, warp, and exit.
You can purchase these options from the Vending Machines at the end of each level! That means you'd best keep an eye out fa coins. The 13 power-ups fa sale include: Keys to open locked passages leading to warps, Monster Mappers, Guard Mappers, Second Shots, 125% Energy limit, and Transfer Coins to your partner.
X Marks the Spot
Xybots is a solid, fun-packed, entertaining shooter enhanced by excellent three-dimensional perspective and graphics. The action isn't exactly fast and furious, but the twists and turns in the mazes are sure to challenge you. As the only game of its kind fa the Lynx, Xybots will X-cite you!
- Don't pick up energy orbs if your energy level is high. Remember where it is and come back for it later.
- Wasting time and shots equals wasting energy.
- You needn't spend all your money every time you reach the vending machine. Purchase only what you would need to help you get through the next level.
- Keep an eye on your energy level and always try to plot the shortest route between you and the Exits.
- Since both you and the Xybots can only shoot straightahead, if you can't hit the Xybot, it can't hit you.
- Remember that you move within a three-dimensionalplaying field. It's important to do a quick spin-around every so often to check if something is sneaking up on you!
- PC compatible
- Operating systems: Windows 10/Windows 8/Windows 7/2000/Vista/WinXP

This is a very good version of Xybots, but I have to start this review by saying I was never really impressed by Xybots in the arcade. As far as the Lynx translation goes, the graphics are crisp, the interaction is good and the overall scope has been captured well. But a good copy of a bad game just doesn't cut it for me.
Xybots is one of those OK type games. There is nothing spectacular about it, but on the other hand there is nothing bad about it either. With somewhat better than average graphics this is a good cart to buy especially considering the other Lynx games out there. Packs good solid action for decent entertainment.
Sorry, but I don't like Xybots for any system. The game has interesting aspects to it but I get tired of running around in a maze and shooting rather quickly. The graphics are good and the sounds is better than average but the game play is far too repetitive to keep my interest long. Not one of my favorite Lynx carts.
I must give credit where credit is due. Unlike my peers, I thoroughly enjoyed the coin-op and had a blast playing with a friend! This is not just your typical run-and-shoot. You must use caution and strategy to continue on to the next level. Anyway, the translation is nearly perfect except for the non-rotational joystick.
