Wouldn't you think that YEOLLEB Warrior sounds like a typo? In gaming these days, it feels like anything goes, especially where there are international developers involved. So, what's the deal behind this mysterious action-adventure game? It feels like it's burst onto the scene with little history or hype propping it up.

YEOLLEB Warrior is based around an 'app' where you play games while you dream. Already there's no shortage of innovative concepts, but sometimes wild ideas don't translate well to gameplay. Let's unravel the mystery here and see if there's any substance behind this action-adventure game seemingly materializing from nowhere.

Take Your Battles to Your Dreams

When you've got a strange idea for a story, it seems like hack-and-slash mechanics is the safest road to go down. That's almost exactly how to describe YEOLLEB Warrior. We've got colorful, weird characters, deep-level design, stunning animations, creative story, and yet action-adventure mechanics that don't seem to promote excitement.

Yes, they are those typical hack-and-slash mechanics that give you creative ways to slaughter your foes. However, it's another game that promotes the grind for little reward. Combat gets repetitive and boring, enemies are uninspired, and each level becomes more and more challenging to find nuances. The only saving grace is the bizarre narrative throughout the game.

The game's aesthetic reels you in. The story of battling in a dreaming app keeps you there. Arguably, there's not much else that inspires you to stay. It's reminiscent of those games where they have a concept procured by developers with no idea of how to bring it to life. So what do you do? You incorporate the failsafe mechanics of a basic action-adventure game.

YEOLLEB Warrior does look good at the very least, and the dialogue does provide a few chuckles. Anyone who wasn't eager to repeat similar hack-and-slash games won't really find much interest in the game. It's too much of a grind with few inspired rewards. Even inside the lucid battling concept, there's definitely room for improvement in delivery.

Apps Aren't Great to Fight Wars.

There's one game that comes to mind consistently when playing through YEOLLEB Warrior, and that's X-Blades. If anyone remembers that, it was a hack-and-slash action-adventure game that basically wanted to display a lewd female character presenting combat moves in suggestive ways. There wasn't much substance outside of that.

YELLOB Warrior is relatively the same. Albeit there's a decent story and well-designed visuals, it won't take long before you get tired of gameplay. Once you've procured all the moves and figured out how your enemies operate, combat loses its excitement even with the flash animations.

There is a market for these kinds of 'safe' games, but it's not huge. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for your action-adventure fix.
