Battle Royale games are all the rage these days. With new titles coming out seemingly every other month, it’s easy to start forgetting about the titles that kicked off the trend. Z1 Battle Royale, formerly known as H1Z1: King of the Kill, is one those games. What started off as a part of a whole experience, Z1 Battle Royale ended up becoming its own project to stand among giants like PUBG and Fortnite. The question, though, is what makes Z1 Battle Royale different from the rest of the crowd.
Grab onto your parachutes as we dive into what makes Z1 Battle Royale special.
It’s Not Another Rehash
For people who have played past incarnations for this BR game, seeing it get rebranded has likely left them sceptical. But the game has received more than a simple change in name.
Ever since its transformation into Z1 Battle Royale, the game has seen leaps and bounds worth of improvements. With the change of branding came a new focus on more arcade-like mechanics and controls. Improvements to its ranking system with a focus on regional leaderboards have although breathed new life into the competitive aspects of the game.
Float Like a Butterfly
Compared to slower-paced BR games like PUBG, Z1 Battle Royale’s newly minted arcade controls make it a more fluid and action-packed experience. The faster movement speed makes traversing across zones of the map swifter which means your time between enemy engagements is shorter. Being able to crouch more instantaneously during combat afford players more options to fake out enemies. In some ways, you could say that Z1 Battle Royale is like a much faster-paced PUBG.
Better Weapons, Better Life
One of the biggest complaints the game’s community had before the rebranding was that the game had received unnecessary changes to its weapons’ recoils. These changes shifted the game’s direction towards more pinpoint accuracy and reduced the ability for newer players to spray bullets and get kills.
Overall, it became a much harder game to get into. The change to Z1 Battle Royale brought the game back to its grassroots times when the weapons were a lot more fun to use. They rewarded both the players who just wanted to have a good time and those who enjoy refining their aim.
So what’s the answer to our earlier question? Z1 Battle Royale isn’t that much of a different game from others in the BR space. At least, not on the surface. But when you get down to the nitty-gritty, you discover a game that has a unique feel to its combat and weapons. And this is quite enough to make the game worth trying out.
Pros
- Fast-paced arcade-style controls and movement mechanics
- Improved leaderboards that emphasize region and provide more avenues for ranking
- A more relaxed PUBG with lots of possibilities for more casual or competitive play
Cons
- There’s not much to distinguish the game from other BRs on the surface level
- Past players may be soured by the multiple rebrandings and rehashes
