Zoombinis Island Odyssey

If you are after a fun and simple game that teaches you to solve logic and maths puzzles, then you should look no further than Zoombinis Island Odyssey. A fantastic game that offers a brilliant number of puzzles for players. With multiple difficulties, this can move from a pleasant jaunt to one of the most difficult games that you have ever played. That sounds like a joke but I assure you that it is not. Zoombinis Island Odyssey is a blast and if you want to play something educational, you’ve come to the right place.

Gameplay

The gameplay is pretty straightforward. This is as clean cut as you can get with the focus just being a set of challenges that you have to get through. Your objective is to click and solve the various puzzles that you encounter with logic and reasoning. This does require that you pay a considerable amount of attention with each puzzle that you encounter as they vary quite a lot.

Each puzzle focuses on something different. The key to solving one might be what the Zoombinis look like, and require categorizing. Other puzzles may just require you to find the correct timing to safely move Zoombinis across a dangerous path, or figuring out how to catapult them.

As I stated, the difficulty can get crazy, so don’t bite off more than you can chew here. Get a hang of it before you start cranking the difficulty up.

Visuals

The visuals to this game are actually pretty timeless. They have that The Curse of Monkey Island vibe but with the gameplay reminiscent of Midnight Rescue!

Throughout the game, you’ll find that the Zoombinis themselves are clearly represented and they have a nice amount of diversity to them. The environments are unique and interesting and fit the themes very well. Never did I find something to be out of place or strange, despite the game obviously being strange by its own accord.

For a game of its age, it holds up surprisingly well. I don’t think anyone would have a problem playing it in the modern age.

Story

So, there definitely is a story to these games. As this is a sequel to the first game, you follow on with a short recap and then it goes straight into the mathematical madness. The Bloats, an evil race of douchebags who took over Zoombini Isle and enslaved its populace, have since abandoned the land and moved away.

The island is fresh for retaking, so the Zoombinis travel back with caterpillars to repopulate the island with moths in an attempt to improve its ecosystem. I don’t think moths play that much of a part in our ecosystem but they apparently do there, so you know what you have to do.
