When it comes to real time strategy games, Ancestor Legacy here is one of the most fun games in this genre I have played in some time. While it may not be completely historically correct, what this does it does very well and if you want a more streamlined, but still very tactics heavy RTS game take a closer look at this.
Four Sides Of A War
The medieval setting of Ancestor Legacy is something that I was right on board with. The game has four very different nations at war. There are the Vikings, the British, the Germans and the Slavs. Each one has their own “thing” that makes them special. For example, the British are far better at using bow and arrows and the Vikings can dish out a real beating when it comes to hand to hand combat.
A Truly Epic Campaign
I must admit that I was not actually expecting much when it came to the campaign, but this is one of the most enjoyable I have encountered in an RTS in years! There are 30 missions for you to play through and there is some fantastic variety to the missions here. I never found myself getting bored. Actually, I was always wondering what the game was going to throw my way next. One mission might forgo any kind of bass building and be all about the battle. Another will be more “political” and require you to make the right decisions. There truly is a lot of fun and interesting things that you have to do in Ancestor Legacy. So much so that the game does always keep you on your toes.
RTS Action With Smarts And Fists
I am not the best RTS gamer in the world, but I had no trouble getting to grips with what the game required from me. There is a fair bit of strategy here and the game gives you plenty of different units to make use of. However, I never once felt overwhelmed by this and the game does have a kind of rock, paper, scissors thing going on with it in terms of the battles. Base building is pretty straightforward and the game then it will have you take over various villages in order to get resources that you can use for battle. I have a feeling that hardcore RTS fans might find things a little simplistic here, but I actually think that works in the games favor, to be honest with you. As well as sending troops out to battle, you need to also think about their morale and them getting leveled up at a good rate. It really has a nice amount of strategy to it, without making things a real chore and that is something that I really do appreciate.
Like A Movie
I already spoke very highly of the game's campaign. One reason that is so good is the presentation. I was very impressed with how polished everything looks and the game has these really cool dynamic camera angles that swoop in and show off how good everything in the game looks. I really was very impressed with how polished the whole game looked. I really cannot think of anything bad to say about the presentation at all.
I am not the best when it comes to RTS games, but Ancestor Legacy really did impress me. Right from the start, this is a game that grabs you and does not let go. It has a nice and long campaign that is genuinely exciting and fun to play through. Plus, the actual gameplay is a lot of fun and something that even novice RTS players will be able to sink their teeth into.
