Archeland

Archeland is an exciting strategy based Gacha game that has recently been released in South Korea. Although its first release has been very successful, the developers have been slow to confirm a global release date, with Closed Beta Testing offers just beginning to go out to fans. Fortunately, those playing the South Korean version have been able to give us a good look at the game and let us know what is coming.

Animations and Graphics are Gorgeous

Archeland goes all out with its graphics and animations, down to the tiniest details. Even when players are simply standing on a map waiting for a fight to begin, small gusts of wind are blowing their clothes, the grass moves, and their sprites are beautifully detailed.

The graphics only improve from there. Even the most casual scene is detailed, but they all have their own fighting cutscenes you can enjoy, and all of the characters are well drawn. This is important in a gacha game, because having a favorite character is part of the draw. Each character is enjoyable in its own right with unique actions and cutscenes.

Combat is Well Thought Out

Of course, since Archeland is a strategy game before anything else, its helpful to have smooth combat. Archeland once again excels here. The game features plenty of unlockable content, such as the ability to auto-fight once it gets past level 7.

Fighting itself has you moving your characters around on a grid style format, with mages having “Area of Effect” Type spells, and others having smaller ranges.

Where you place characters in combat is key to whether you will clear the stage or not, and the developers go out of their way to make sure you’re paying attention. Even if auto-combat is available, you’ll want to avoid using it on newer content until you know where characters should be placed. If you’ve ever played Kalpa of the Universe from the early 2000s, think of this as a more modernized version as the two have a lot of similarities.

A Little Grindy

Despite only being released in one area, players have noted that the game does require a lot of grinding to get anything done. Auto play for those fights you’ve done dozens of times already does make it a little bit easier, but having to repeat fights often can get dull after a short period of time.

This game has a lot going for it. Combat is well done and features some quality-of-life changes that help make the grinding aspects easier. The fun features of this game are balanced however, by the tons of grinding you have to do to get anything done.
