Broken Harbours

Broken Harbours is a gay furry visual novel and something that I really appreciate. I am a huge fan of this developer and this is actually a spin-off/side game to one of their other games. I think that they did a bit of experimentation here and that does show, but I am not necessarily saying that is a bad thing. I enjoyed my time with this, it is very much a one and done kind of short visual novel experience, but if you enjoy this developer's other work, I am sure you will appreciate what they have gone for here.

Dawn Chorus

I am a big fan of a gay furry visual novel called Dawn Chorus and that is what Broken Harbours is a spin-off/side game to. That game was a very deep and engaging story with many interesting and well developed characters, two of the characters that made an appearance in that game were Rune and Devon and what we have here is their story. A story about how their relationship developed and all that came with it. I honestly think that it is an interesting story in many ways and it was good to see these two characters fleshed out.

Telling The Story The Right Way

One of the things that I have read more than a few people complain about with Broken Harbours is the way that the story is presented. This is not told from a particular character's point of view. The story is told in the third person, so rather than hearing directly what Rune will say, it will do the “Rune said this” thing as a way of telling the story. I get how some may feel this makes it harder to connect to the story, but I thought it was an interesting experiment. To be honest, I would have preferred it if the story was told from a character point of view, but I can appreciate what the developer was trying to do here.

Keeping The Story Going

Broken Harbours is a very short visual novel. It does not have much at all in the way of the gameplay, but to be fair, I am ok with that as the developer had a clear vision for the story that they wanted to tell so I liked not having a bunch of meaningless choices that amount to nothing. I liked how there were some interesting options you could play with. There is a way to make the game more safe for work if you know what I am saying and you can also look at the “kinks” that are in the game and it gives you a bit of choice there too.

Characters Who Are Art

Just like Dawn Chorus, Broken Harbours is a truly incredible visual spectacle! I think that even those who are not usually into the furry art style will be able to appreciate how good this game looks. It is not just the characters, but the backgrounds that bring this story to life. I love this world that was created and the kind of fall look to it all is something that I thought was awesome. Honestly, the art in this game is so good, that I would pick up an art book in a heartbeat!

If you enjoyed Dawn Chorus, you simply must play Broken Harbours. It fleshes out two of the characters and it tells its own interesting story. Granted, the way that the story is presented does appear to have people split down the middle, but I can say that I personally really did enjoy it. I hope there is more to come from this developer in this universe as I think that they have created something very cool here.

Pros:

  • I liked the two protagonists
  • The 3rd person way of telling the story is unique for a lewd visual novel
  • The game is brought to life with amazing visuals
  • You can turn kinks and XXX stuff on and off

Cons:

  • The 3rd person storytelling does make things a little less personal
  • You can beat the game in one short sitting and there is not much to make you come back
