Crossfire: Legion is a Sci-Fi real-time strategy game announced in June 2021 by Koch Media. Developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Prime Matter, players can get their hands on Crossfire: Legion on April 26th, 2022. Since then, we’ve been receiving a constant stream of trailers, news, and minor updates before the game is finally released.

Different Ideas, Same War

A tireless war rages on as two different factions wage war over their distinct ideologies. The scenario seems grim, and it looks like an impasse was reached; however, a new organization joins the conflict. The opposing factions, Black List and Global Risk, now have a new contender and challenge on their way. Crossfire: Legion is a war game that doesn’t delve too deep into the philosophical or moral part of the war, but it has a narrative-driven campaign that sets up a good foundation for world-building and gameplay.

Real-time strategy games are almost always complex games by nature. They are fast-paced titles that rely heavily on mechanical skills, near-perfect execution, fast adaptation, speedy reaction times, and an excellent strategy to succeed. Games from this genre are challenging, but they are highly addictive at the same time, which explains why they are so popular.

Take The Back Seat, Or Assume Total Control

Crossfire: Legion offers players the opportunity to face it with friends through co-op. Players can face different assault scenarios and enemy approaches with a friend to try and defeat the AI. But, the heart of this game and any other RTS is the online multiplayer mode, where rankings and leaderboard become available. The game tries to showcase itself as a game that can be approached casually or competitively. Still, if history teaches us anything, most genre players gravitate towards the ranking aspect of the title.

Crossfire: Legion might be an overwhelming experience for newcomers, as most RTSs are. The need to account for the two of every asset in the game and react accordingly is complex. You are required to manage your units, movements, resources, gathering, troops, and logistics. However, players have to mentally track all of their enemy’s movements and react appropriately to be genuinely successful. Commands aren’t usually hard, but the inputs and clicks required are certainly barriers to the more casual players.

Conclusion

Crossfire: Legion is a Sci-Fi RTS, which is not a new genre; some of the most successful ones share the Sci-Fi theme. The game will rely heavily on its community and online activity to succeed. Starcraft II, Age of Empires, and Command & Conquer players will feel right at home.
