DIRT Racing

Games Total: 10

If you love the Dirt racing games series you have driven into the right place here. Starting all the way back in 1998 with the game, Colin McRae Rally which was on PlayStation, PC, and even Game Boy Color. The series to this day is regarded as one of the best rally racing games on the market right now. Spanning over 15 games, the series has gone from strength to strength and we wanted to give a few suggestions of which games in the series are worth your time.

We already told you where this great series began, but we thought that the best place to start was with the most recent of all the Dirt racing games and that is the awesome Dirt 5. This was such a great game and actually the last game in the series to be released before publisher Codemasters was taken over by EA. Speaking of which, we do not know for sure what is happening with the Dirt series, but technically, the most recent game in this series is now, EA Sports WRC which appears to be what this series has now morphed into. It is kind of like how EA took their FIFA series and turned that into EA Sports FC24. No matter if it is Dirt 5 or EA Sports WRC, if you want the most recent rally game, you cannot go wrong with either one.

Our next suggestion in our Dirt Racing games collection sees us going back a few years to Colin McRae: DiRT 2 which was released in 2009. What makes this such a special rally racing game is that first of all, it is a ton of fun to play. It is realistic, but it is also a game that is a blast and exciting to play. However, this would also be the last game in the Dirt series to have Colin McRae’s iconic name attached to it. For a game that was released during the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era, this second game to bear the Dirt name holds up really well and can be a very addictive experience.

We just talked about the second one so the most logical place to go next on our Dirt racing games collection is Dirt 3. Now, it is a real personal preference thing if you prefer this or Dirt 2. Granted, this one was the first game where they no longer had an association with Colin McRae after the racing icon's tragic passing. However, they took what they did with Dirt 2, and rather than just starting from scratch, they decided to refine and fine tune parts of that game. We get why they moved on from the rally legends name, it would have been cool for them to perhaps dedicate it to him or something like that.

Next up we have Dirt Showdown which is one of the more unusual games in the Dirt racing games series. You see, this game was originally an arcade racing game, released at a time when it was like only racing games were popular in modern arcades. While it was a decent arcade hit, it was an arcade game that was eventually brought home. This is more arcade rally racing, kind of closer to something like Sega Rally 2 which is more arcade based than something like RalliSport Challenge 2 which is an awesome game, but far more “sim” in terms of the style of racing that it is offering. If you want that rally racing action, but want something that has a bit more grit and craziness to it, you are the perfect gamer to try out Showdown.

That is just a small taste of all the awesome Dirt racing games that we have to offer. While we have mainly looked at the actual Dirt and Colin McRae Rally series here, we do have other rally style games too such as Dirt Track Devils and NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona which offer a bit of a different kind of racing action.
