Doors: Paradox could very well be the best puzzle game to be released this year! This is an escape room style of puzzle game and it is truly remarkable stuff and when your biggest complaint about the game is that you wish there was more of it, you know you are onto something good. The game has been available on mobile for a short while as I write this, but it is the version for PC that I am specifically talking about today. You can check out a free demo of this to give you an idea of what to expect.

Follow The Cat, Go Through The Door And Save The Day

The story in Doors: Paradox is not its strongest quality, but there is a real mystery here that kept me invested and wanting to know what exactly was going on here. The universe is in trouble and you have to follow this strange black cat through various doors, solving the puzzle of them as you do. You can find these scrolls as you play and these are what will flesh out the story for you.

Each Item Has A Purpose

The way the world in Doors: Paradox is set up is truly fascinating and some of the cleverest game designs that I have seen in quite some time. Each “level” or puzzle if you prefer sees a floating door standing in front of you and your task is to open this door so you can go through it and onto the next puzzle. The way you do this is by finding the right items and putting them into the right place. For example, you may be tasked with building the locking mechanism on a specific door so that it can be opened. It sounds basic, but it is fiendishly challenging, but never to the point of frustration. The game was great on mobile, but on PC is it is even better as it is so much easier to see what you are doing.

A Puzzlingly Beautiful World

The visuals in the game are great. There is a kind of storybook vibe going on here in Doors: Paradox with the visuals, it is hard to explain and I know that this is a strange comparison, but I get a kind of Skylanders vibe from the different worlds that the game will be taking you to. One thing I will say is that on PC, I do think that the game has a bit more polish and style to it than it does on a little mobile screen!

A Whole New World

I also want to talk about the variety and creativity in each world. Granted on paper it may not sound like the most original of game worlds as there are places like a pirate world, a ghost world, a forest, and a steampunk style world. However, they all look great and have a ton of charm and personality about them.

I had a great time playing Doors: Paradox on my Samsung Galaxy S21 and I have had an even better time playing it on my PC. This is a puzzle game that manages to offer you a good challenging time, but at the same time, there is something kind of relaxing about it that gets you into a zen-like state that keeps you wanting to play to see what the next world the game has for you will be like. If you enjoy puzzle games and hidden object/escape room style games, I highly recommend that you check this one out.

Pros:

  • I thought the premise of the story here was very interesting
  • I love the colorful and well detailed visuals
  • There are a ton of different door puzzles for you to solve
  • The game is very addictive and fun

Cons:

  • I do wish that there was a bit more to the narrative
  • The PC version kind of makes the mobile one irrelevant
