In one of the most impactful games to hit the fighting genre, Dragon Ball FighterZ combines one of the most talented develpers in combat games with one of the most popular animes of all time. The result is a match made in heaven. Dragon Ball FighterZ is a must have game for anyone who is a fan of the anime, or simply a fan of great fighting games.
Gorgeous graphics
The graphics of the game look and feel like the same artists who drew the anime. The colors are rich, the animations smooth, and the characters look authentic. This is very important if you’re a fan of the anime, because even tiny differences will be noticed by the players.
The cell shaded art is beautiful, and detailed even when the player or enemies are in motion. It’s enjoyable just to look at, even if you’re not the one in combat.
Simple fighting controls
Although the game may look complicated at first, the developers have done an incredible job of keeping the combat simple for players. The game uses just four attack buttons to control the character. There are no complicated combo moves. If you can handle even the most basic controls from other fighting games, you can handle the fighting options for this game.
This doesn’t mean that the game is dull. If you’re coming from a game like Blazblue and are surprised by the simplicity of the controls, you’ll still have plenty of other things to focus on. The game is 3v3, and you control all three of those players at once.
Although the combos are auto, you can manually add in some combos that have greater rewards. This gives new players the ability to play the game without having a steep learning curve, while offering more advanced players something for their talents.
Multiplayer Available
The game allows you to play both locally against your own friends, as well as online. Online can be fun if both players are equally matched, but can get annoying if the other player just spams combos without any real talent.
This isn’t especially the fault of the game though, there’s no way to screen other players for ability or play style before choosing a match. If you don’t enjoy playing against randoms you can play against your own friends just as easily.
Having a multiplayer option really improves the overall quality of the game, because it increases the replay value. Going against another player is always unique.
This is an ideal fighting game. It provides entry level gaming for new players, while still having something for more advanced players. The game is stunningly beautiful to look at, matching the look and feel of the anime exactly.
If you’re a fan of Dragon Ball Z or just want a good solid fighting game to get into, this is one of the top rated games of the year.

Game Reviews
Dragon Ball is one of the most popular anime ever created, with an equally long list of games based on the series. For a long time, fans have begged for a team-up fighting game with all of the best characters and that's exactly what Dragon Ball FighterZ brings to the table. Picking your favorite fighters and diving into battle, there are various modes to try, a competitive online community, and so many moves and combos to memorize. It doesn't matter if you love Dragon Ball or are a fighting game fanatic, Dragon Ball FighterZ is calling your name!
Main Game Features
- 24 playable characters
- Graphics just like the anime
- Story mode, versus, and more
Story
Dragon Ball FighterZ contains a full story mode that will definitely please fans of the show. This story takes place during the Dragon Ball Super show, with three different arcs to experience. In the Super Warrior Arc, players control Goku, one of the most powerful fighters in the land. Together with his friends, Goku must save the world from Android 21, who has captured all of the world's best fighters and created clones of the evil ones. In the Enemy Warrior arc, you play as a fighter infused with the soul of the villain Freeza, battling clones and also trying to take down Android 21, occasionally working with Goku. The third arc, Android 21, has you playing as Android 18, battling other characters as Android 21's handiwork creates more problems.
What's really cool about Dragon Ball FighterZ is just how much it replicates the look and feel of the classic show, with many of the original voice actors and a cool anime style. Dragon Ball is a show with a very specific art style, and they show it off perfectly in this game, with giant explosions and crazy fast movement. The story might have too many characters for a new player to completely understand things, but any fan of the show will love seeing their favorite fighters in this all new story.
Gameplay
Dragon Ball FighterZ is a 2.5D fighting game, a lot like Marvel vs Capcom 3 Fate of Two Worlds, where players choose three characters to have on their team during a fight. During the fight, players can move left, right, and fly into the air, but there is no 3D movement. At the beginning of a battle, you will control the first fighter that you picked, but you can easily swap between them when you're not under attack. Additionally, you can call on your other fighters for special assist moves, opening up the enemy for more attack combos. The game was designed in a way that both new players and fighting game fans will have a fun time learning it, without requiring too much preparation. New players can mash one button to auto-complete combos and many characters have an attack that shoots out projectiles, making it easier to keep your distance.
In addition to the story mode, Dragon Ball FighterZ also has other modes to try, including Versus, Arcade, Online, and more. Arcade lets you challenge several fighters in a row without cutscenes, whereas Versus allows you to fight against friends and computer-controlled opponents in local play. Online has a few options as well, but Ranked mode is where most players converge, testing out their skills in a fight to be #1! Extra characters can be unlocked through gameplay as well, and you can practice with new or old characters in Training mode.
Conclusion
Dragon Ball FighterZ has everything you could want in both a fighting game and a Dragon Ball Z game. The combat is super fast and the graphics look just like the show, with enough explosions and spirit blasts to please the eyes.
The tutorials and control modifiers make it an easy game for newcomers to pick up as well, offering just as many rewards without the need to practice. There have been a lot of Dragon Ball games, but Dragon Ball FighterZ might be the best of all time.
