Fire Emblem Three Houses

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is, without a doubt, the best dating simulator disguised as a turn-based strategy game. Jokes aside, Three Houses is one of the most impressive games that I have every played. There is so much to it, from the social simulation aspects all the way through to the story and combat gameplay. If you are looking for an outstanding, high-budget game with a lot to offer, this is easily the best option you are going to get for a long while. Want to know more? Let’s jump into it.

Gameplay

The gameplay of this title has a few different sections so you can go ahead and get excited about that. Firstly, we have social encounters. These take up a fair bit if your time as you are allowed mostly free reign to run around the academy that your character teaches at. You will be able to speak to all the students you teach and even a few you don’t. You will be able to build relationships with these people by going out for a spot of tea together and conversing. Maybe even give them a gift or two to get those gears turning. It’s a lot of fun and when you find a character that you like, its exhilarating getting them to like you.

The other half of the gameplay in this title is the battle part and its brilliant! You take a bird’s eye view of the entire battlefield and you move your pieces around like a dynamic chess board. Engage with the enemy units and win. Try not to lose anyone while you’re at it. You can choose to have permadeath on for your team but it makes the game a lot harder. Each character is different with their own skills and abilities and its up to you to form the strategy on how to best make use of those characters. There is an outstanding amount of depth to this game, which makes it a wonderful challenge. This game shares similarities in its gameplay with other titles like Triangle Strategy, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Octopath Traveler. You will need to play it to truly understand what I’m talking about.

Story

The story follows mercenary by the name of Byleth. You can choose whether you wish to present this character as male or female. After an introductory stage, you are permitted to teach a group of students at an Officers Academy. While there, a considerable number of important events and story beats that follow based largely on which of the three houses in the officer’s academy you choose to teach.

There is a lot of replay value here with at least 5 unique runs with significantly different endings. You will have a hard time not always siding with your favorite characters but its absolutely worth it to go through all storylines.

Visuals

The visuals in this title are absolutely astonishing. Everything looks stunningly crisp and clean. For the amazing number of characters in this title, they all look sufficiently unique. The environments are all very fitting of where and who you are fighting. It’s clear that no expense has been spared in this game’s creation.
