Floppy Knights

With so many card games out there, it’s very rare that something comes along to break the mold. Floppy Knights has taken the idea of this style of game and turned it into something fresh and new. Instead of trading cards in the traditional sense, you’ll be putting floppy disks into an ancient computer that is also your arm.

As the artwork suggests, the game’s storyline has a lighthearted feel. You follow the main character Phoebe, who is trying to save up enough money to move out of her parents’ house. There are a lot of odd jobs around where she lives, but she is only one person. She invented Floppy Knights to help her in her quest to make enough money.

Has In-Game Tutorial

The very first section of the game guides you through how to play. You’ll get a feel for how the floppy disks work, how to move around the turn-based game, and what sort of powers you and the enemy have. It’s fairly quick and does a good job of orienting you in the game.

Simple Artwork

The graphics in Floppy Knights are simple but cute. The game seems well thought out and follows the floppy disk theme, with the cards being the disks, a battery to show how much energy you have left, and a computer file for where you put your cards.

The animations look great and move smoothly, which keeps the whole picture a simple, cute appearance. The artwork, animation, and even game style seems very similar to Dicey Dungeons, but rather than dice the game plays with floppy disks.

Cute Music

Along with the charming graphics is a catchy soundtrack composed by Grahm Nesbitt, the same person who did the music for Garden Story. The music is beautiful and makes playing the game more enjoyable.

Gameplay

According to the developers, Floppy Knights game style was inspired by games such as Fire Emblem and Dominion: Storm Over Gift 3. The game is a mixture of card gameplay and tile turn based games. Each day Phoebe gets a new odd job to try and complete. Part of the strategy to the game is choosing the cards that you’ll play, from plants to hooligans. Which team you pick will help determine what sort of actions you have available to perform in the fight. Each themed deck has its own commander as well, changing the game depending on what you choose.

As the story advances, it becomes obvious there is more to life for Phoebe than just simple jobs—she may even one day help save the world. All in the job for Phoebe.
