When you’re on the hunt for your next adult-themed video game, you’ll probably have a number of criteria in your head you’re looking to hit. Maybe it’s terrific graphics, stellar animations or maybe you want something that’s really specific and fulfils a certain kink for you. Whatever it is, we support you, we aren’t here to judge. However, a game that focuses on a novel which tells the story of Daniel, a teen who has arrived home to find his parents murdered wouldn’t have been something we would have guessed. This is Foot of The Mountain.
This game plays much like your typical adult narrative-based story game with a series of diverging paths and choices that will have you pick different lines of dialogue, seduce those around you and ultimately, try to work out the mystery behind the murder of your parents.
This games presentation is probably the thing that will stand out to you first and foremost. The game makes use of a hyper realistic unreal engine to deliver an aesthetic that is based firmly in reality. The character models are incredibly well designed to the point where it is hard to establish whether the games still imagery is 3D rendered or real life. Then the surrounding areas of the home and outdoor areas where the action takes place are very much the same. You’ll often find yourself questioning if the images were taken from a camera.
In terms of the storyline, the initial few episodes we’re enough to grab the attention of the backers for this Patreon funded game. However, in recent additions to the title, there seems to be a break down in the flow of the narrative. What was initially well pieced together and filled with context and healthy branching choices is now a story that is a parody of itself. The intimate scenes are accessible by RNG rather than genuine choices by the player, the narrative aspects outside of the sexual exploits are becoming less and less and the sexual encounters are becoming more comical than arousing.
The game has been likened to Frankenstein due to its many intriguing parts being sewn together to create something that doesn’t work as a whole. It’s disappointing especially considering the strong start the story makes.
These games often have a lack of tangible gameplay which is to be expected for the genre and therefore, it’s easy to look past. However, most of these titles will make the UI very accessible, quick and look good. This game doesn’t offer this at all. The UI is essentially white text hovering on the screen at times, the swapping between rooms and the dialogue boxes are either too small or underwhelming, respectively.
A Hot and Steamy Murder Mystery
This game has clearly focused on one aspect above all else and that is its visuals. It’s easy to see why as they are truly fantastic and the genre does lend itself to a very visceral approach. However, it seems that all other aspects were pushed to the wayside. The story starts strong but soon loses its way both in terms of flow and content, plus the UI and gameplay aspects begin to fall short with choices becoming more to do with luck than the player’s inputs and the UI is far from serviceable. In short, this one looks great, starts well but needs a real facelift at the time of writing.
- Photorealistic 3D artwork
- Good initial storyline
- Too much content based on RNG
- The story loses its way in later episodes
