GeoDepths

GeoDepths is a game where there is base management, resource gathering and management, and exploration. It is the kind of game that can easily take over your life if you get into things like this which I am not ashamed to admit is certainly something I am guilty of. The sci-fi twist that this game has is the cherry on top of the cake (actually forget that, chocolate on top of the cake, I hate cherries!) as it made me want to know as much about this world as possible. I will admit that as I write this, the game is still being worked on, but there is a pretty hefty demo you can check out.

The Mysteries Of The Alien Planet

What we have here with GeoDepths is not some big narrative driven adventure. What we have is what the developer refers to as “environmental storytelling” which basically means that as we dive deeper and explore this strange alien world more. It will reveal more of its secrets to us and we get to know a bit more a little bit at a time in regards to what this world is and what kind of “life” calls this place home. As a huge fan of sci-fi, I loved this, it made me feel like an explorer on something like an alien planet.

Deep Drilling!

No this is not some kind of lewd game and that is me doing a clever pun! GeoDepths has us playing the role of a surveyor/miner for this big interstellar mining company. We have come to this resource rich planet and we are tasked with drilling deeper and deeper into the planet so that we can explore and find new things that can be utilized and of course, make this mining company a ton of money in the process. The mining and drilling aspect of the game I would have to say is the “meat and potatoes” of the gameplay, but it is really a means to an end.

Making The Most Of What You Find

GeoDepths is also a resource management kind of game too which is a genre that I tend to get quite addicted to. You will find all kinds of resources during your mining expeditions and the stuff that you find from raw materials to fauna and alien stuff can be used back at your base to make new things that can make you money and of course, also improve the stuff that you have. For example, you can find some raw materials that let you upgrade your drilling equipment so that you can drill further into the ground.

Home Sweet Home

There is also some base building that you can partake in here in GeoDepths. Your base needs to be powered and thankfully there is this alien fauna that can do just that so you need a steady supply of that. However, I think it is a lot of fun and very addicting as you can expand your base of operations by adding more rooms and places to use what you have found on this strange alien world. There is a lot to get into here and I think that is what makes games like this so addicting.

Pros:

• I love the idea of exploring the depths of this alien planet
• Gather and utilizing resources is fun
• You can build a base and expand on it
• I am very interested in finding out more about this strange alien world

Cons:

• It may be a bit of a slow burn for some people
• The visuals are a tad on the basic side, but to be fair, I like the style they have gone for here
