Gundam Breaker 4 allows fans of the Gundam series and mecha enthusiasts alike to construct the ultimate Gunpla and fight with it in what's easily the best game in the series. Not only does this game work off what has made the previous titles successful, but it has noticeably upgraded its already large library for parts customization and added a dual-weapon system that brings new dimensions of strategy to battles.
As is customary for the Breaker series, enemies can be defeated and their parts broken to create a dynamic loot collection element, heightening the feeling of battle. With more than 250 different base model kits available, customizable paint options, and detailed decals, Gundam Breaker 4 lets you make your Gunpla stand out.
Diorama Mode is an all-new addition to Gundam Breaker 4 that allows players to assemble incredible dynamic scenes. This, paired with robust single-player and online missions for combat, ensures that players can actually test their Gunpla in a wide variety of action scenarios, besides designing and customizing it.
Customize Like Never Before
Customization options in Gundam Breaker 4 are simply astounding. There are over 250 base kits used for making a completely personalized Gunpla. Customization is profound, not only regarding the physical parts but also by painting their created mechs in a myriad of colors, applying wears and weathering to make the Gunpla appear battle-scathed, and adding decals to truly personalize the Gunpla.
In contrast to similar games like Custom Robo, which focuses on building/customization, Gundam Breaker 4 greatly outclasses these other titles in sheer options and customization depth. It's still not quite on the same gameplay level as something like Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, but it doesn't try to compete with those titles, either.
Break and Battle
Combat in Gundam Breaker 4 truly feels like an area where effort is made to bring out the best, especially compared to the dismal New Gundam Breaker. The new dual-weapon system embedded more versatility and strategy into firefights.
Players can switch between weapons on the fly, adapting accordingly to enemy types and combat situations. Breaking down parts off enemies, and then tacking them onto your collection, offers a very rewarding layer of progression.
It's a mechanic reminiscent of scavenging systems used in games like Armored Core, but its payoffs are much more immediate and rewarding. The battles are fast-paced, skill- and strategy-intensive; each encounter feels exhilarating and interesting in its own right, though the combos and overall gameplay can feel floaty and repetitive after a few hours.
Show Off Your Masterpiece
One of the brand-new features that creatives are really going to love is the Diorama Mode. It is a mode in which the player can set up and photograph their Gunpla against a variety of dynamic scenes, complete with changeable backgrounds and special effects. It is one great way to share and show off hard work within the community.
This feature really sets Gundam Breaker 4 apart from other mecha games like Mech Warrior, which focuses quite a lot on combat but little on the creative aspect. The ability to create and share these dioramas gives a social side to the game, letting players interact and inspire other Gunpla lovers.
Gundam Breaker 4 is a title that neither fans of the Gundam series nor anyone who loves mecha customizing and combat can afford to miss.
