Heavy Fire Afghanistan

If you remember going to the arcade to play old-school rail shooters, then you might want to take a look at 2014 releae Heavy Fire Afghanistan. Developed by Teyon, this title has quite a lot of players who take on its interesting first person arcade madness. While it obviously has its limits in terms of presentation and variety, Heavy Fire Afghanistan lives up to the memory of the old-school rail shooters that were once so popular with arcade gamers.

A return to the classic rail shooter genre

Rail shooters more or less have died out as a modern concept, but you still get the odd title that can be lots of fun. This title might have more to thank the likes of Time Crisis than it cares to admit, but there is plenty to enjoy in this game. The experience is simple – fast-paced rail shooter madness where you make your way through various set pieces in modern Afghanistan.

You will be taking on all manner of enemies, from tanks and helicopters to assault vehicles and other troops. The game has become a go-to choice for up to four players, and also has a pretty competitive leaderboard for those who are looking to try and move up the ladder a little.

It’s all good fun, and while it is quite simplistic and runs out of invention quite quickly if you want a classic rail shooter this is one to try out.

Basic rail shooter with enough good ideas to sustain an evening or two (6.5/10)

While there is not really anything about this game that makes it stand out from the crowd, it is fun enough. It’s got decent enough visuals, an addictive enough gameplay loop, and enough moment-to-moment action to keep things fresh. You will probably find yourself getting a bit tired of some of the levels as time goes on, and it does tend to become quite repetitive, but it is enjoyable enough for an evening or two.

We do highly recommend playing this with others, though; this can add a layer of freshness to the title. Overall, it’s quite a fun evening or two if you play with friends as you work together to clear the screen and survive. Yes, it has very much taken all of its cues and ideas from old-school rail shooters. If you happened to play these games in arcades, though, then Heavy Fire Afghanistan can offer a nice little nostalgia trip for you down the line.
