Himno - The Silent Melody

If you played the first game and are expecting Himno - The Silent Melody to be another peaceful and chill game, prepare to be surprised! This is a very clever roguelite style of game where your goal is to do what you can and try to get rid of all of the corruption that is in the world. It is a pretty fun premise and I love the whole retro style of the game. As of me writing this, there is a free demo available so be sure to check it out before the full release later in the year.

The World That Fell Must Rise Once Again!

I think that the story Himno - The Silent Melody is telling is very interesting. We play as a character called, Fash who is what is known as a Guardian Explorer.

The world that Fash called home was basically destroyed and put into darkness many years ago. Now, Fash is trying to fix it and find other guardians so that they can restore color to this dark and depressing world

Going At Your Own Pace The gameplay of Himno - The Silent Melody sounds very interesting. Each time you play the game, it is procedurally generated so you can never be 100 percent sure of what is going to await you. I am always more of a combat kind of guy so I will always happily go and try and fight anything that stands in my way. However, this game has some great platforming and you can jump, dash and dodge your way through this 2D adventure and keep combat to a bare minimum if you wish. I always think it is cool when a game lets you play it in the style that you like best.

Building Your Way To The End

There is also a pretty interesting crafting mechanic at play here in Himno - The Silent Melody. As you explore, you will be coming across all kinds of stuff to help you on your journey. I think the way that you can craft weapons to fight with and potions that can give you various advantages is really cool. This kind of thing really does encourage the player to explore every inch of the map and I like that.

In The Dark

I cannot stress how much I love the whole presentation of the game. This world is dark and depressing and a little bit of light follows Fash as he explores. It is a great effect and the retro kind of style is done very well. Bringing color back to the world is the goal and because of how dark things are, the visuals do help you get more invested in what is going on. I know that there are like a million retro style games on Steam, but I really do think the style these have gone for here makes it standout.

8

I am a huge fan of games like this and I think what they have done with Himno - The Silent Melody is very cool. I had a lot of fun with the first game and enjoyed the more chillout vibe that it offered. With this one, you will be kept on your toes as you try and make your way to the end to bring color to this world. As of writing, it is still a few months away from being finished, but there is a free demo so there is no need at all to not try this out.

Pros:

  • I love the lore and story that they have created here
  • The way it uses lighting, darkness, and color is very clever
  • You can be a warrior or play the game more as a pacifist if you like
  • The world will be different each time you will play it

Cons:

  • This kind of game is usually very tough
  • If you are sick of retro style games, it may not win you over
