If you’ve ever wanted a sniper game that focused on physics, Hitman: Sniper Challenge is a refreshing game that will let you get a true feel for long distance shots. Every aspect of taking a shot is taken into account, from the bullet dropping in height over distance to the travel time of the bullet are all taken into account.
In the game, you play a sniper on a mission involving an annual company party for a large corporation. The game includes just one map, with the entire focus on bringing your target down.
A small but worthwhile game
Hitman: Sniper Challenge was sold as a precursor to Hitman: Absolution. The game takes care, however, to be seen as it’s own game and not just a new mode for the game. Although it was given away paired with Hitman: Absolution, it comes in its own CD case, has its own icon, and can be purchased separately.
Rather than feel like an add-on for the game it was paired with however, Hitman: Sniper Challenge manages to make itself stand out, in some ways much better than the game that was meant to steal the show. In particular, the intro that updates you on the mission you are supposed to go on is much closer to the look and feel of the series, and never fails to get your heart pounding. Hitman: Absolution, unfortunately, can’t say the same.
More relaxed feel
In most of the other games in this series, getting to your target position is half the challenge. In Hitman: Sniper Challenge, you don’t move at all. You are positioned on the ledge of a roof, and must take all your shorts from there. This takes a significant amount of pressure off the player, which is appropriate since this is a bonus game rather than a full piece. The game is also extremely short—you’re tasked with killing the target and all 15 of his body guards in just 15 minutes.
That doesn’t mean that the game is poor quality however, killing all of the required people efficiently without being caught certainly makes the game a challenge.
Somewhat dull map
In previous games from this series, assassinations have taken place on some pretty spectacular maps. These maps are highly detailed and often colorful, such as a fashion show taking place at the French Palace. This one is a lot more sedate, and feels like an average, ordinary scene. Despite this, the map still has its challenges which keeps game play fun.
This tiny mini-game managed to outshine the game it was paired with, simply for its understanding of what Hitman fans come back to the franchise for. Even though the game is just 15 minutes long, you’ll find yourself playing it over and over again for the thrill of finding new ways to get through the map. If you’re wondering if this game is worth purchasing even though it’s small, the answer is a definite yes.
- Exciting, fast paced game
