Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001

Do you get much more classic than Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001? That is right the original Metal Slug actually has that subtitle after it. Anyway, if there is one series of games that goes hand in hand with Neo Geo it is Metal Slug. It is kind of nuts to think that this game is the better part of 30 years old! It is a testament to how good it is that you can play it today and it is still a great time.

Stop The Metal Slug!

For a game that was originally released as an arcade game all the way back in 1996. Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 has more story than you would think and certainly more story than other arcade run and gun shooters of the day had. Basically, a crazy and evil General called Morden wants to take his army all over the globe in order to take it over. To do this he is using his Metal Slug! Which is a super powerful tank that cannot be stopped….

Unless you step up like the badass you are and put a stop to him! While the story may not win any awards. It does give you a motivation to be doing what you are doing and that is more than many other games of this era offered!

Like An Animated Movie Come To Life

Back in 1996, the visuals of Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 were truly amazing. Actually, they are still amazing to this day. It is not just the amazing sprite work that makes this such a visually appealing game. It is the way everything is animated too that really makes it stand the test of time. The way the enemies move, the way they burn, and the millions of little background details that are in each level really do bring the world of Metal Slug to life in an amazing way.

All About The Gameplay

While Metal Slug is a visual treat. It is the gameplay that has kept this game relevant for all these years. I would say that Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 is just as much fun to play today as it was all the way back in 1996. Each level sees you have to kill a never-ending run of enemies. You can use your guns or a melee attack! You can even jump in some pretty cool vehicles and use these too.

The game is very fast-paced and just when you think you have seen all that it has to offer, you come across a cool looking boss. Metal Slug moves at a very fast pace and even when you die, you never find yourself overly frustrated. It just makes you more determined to try again to save the day!

I really cannot praise Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 highly enough. The term “timeless classic” can get thrown around a lot these days. Yet that truly is the best way to describe this game! It is a blast to play from start to end and it is a game that I will play through at least once a year. I am not sure I would say it is the best in the entire series, but it is a truly excellent game and one that every gamer needs to experience.
