The almost-early entry covering the Motorcycle Grand Prix is back in 2022 with MotoGP 22. Published and developed by Milestone, the racing game has recently been released. Available for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC, MotoGP 22 is the pinnacle of what Motorcycle racing has to offer.
One Wheel In Front Of The Other
If we are sincere, MotoGP 22 is the best racing-simulation motorcycle game available. It is a marginal improvement over last year's entry; however, it still pushes the boundaries of what is possible in this genre. This is a game designed for a particular niche of players, and truthfully making the upgrade from MotoGP 21 to MotoGP 22 is something that only true fans of the sport might do.
Yearly titles tend to slowly but surely improve, and that is no different here. Upgraded visuals, tighter controls, better assistance, the new Ride Height Device, more realistic tire, fuel consumption, and multiple new settings take the realism to the next level. MotoGP 22 is an insanely complex game to master at its core and highest difficulty. Players will be punished, fall, crash, and constantly be tested in adrenaline-fueled competition. If other simulation games try to make themselves more accessible, MotoGP 22 has no fear of being as realistic as possible.
In the end, however, Milestone does a great job of offering assistance to newcomers. Either through its impressive and in-depth MotoGP academy tutorial or through the various assistance settings that players can tweak, anyone who wants to learn or get excited about the Grand Prix has the tools to do so.
Novelty On Wheels
MotoGP 22 is a fantastic game, and it seems built for, and by, fans of the genre. This entry sets itself apart by giving players a chance to experience a yet unreleased track in the "Spielberg Red Bull Ring" and the acclaimed NINE: Season 2009 mode. Of course, career mode, multiplayer mode, and tutorial are all back, and they are all fantastic, but the documentary-style method of NINE: Season 2009 makes this game worth it.
Fans of the sport will immediately know exactly what the 2009 season meant to the sport. For those unaware, Lorenzo, Stoner, Pedrosa, and Rossi, were all contenders to win the Grand Prix, and they battled it out to the last race of the championship. This made for an exciting season that players can now replicate and be a part of. Guiding players through the 17 Grand Prix of 2009, the game sets up multiple challenges for players to compete in. The challenges are fun, relevant, and add a new fun factor to the game. The documentary-style mode might be one of the best things the franchise has ever done.
MotoGP 22 is the best version of a motorcycle racing game; however, it does little to justify casual players to upgrade. Except for the documentary mode, which is something that might warrant buying the game for its sheer fun and fantastic storytelling.
