It's the beat-em-up that very few people asked for, and everybody is going to get! MultiVersus is Warner Bros. piece of the pie in battle royales - but is it vital? Apparently, they would think so. The game will feature fast-paced combat action with your favorite Warner Bros. universe characters, playable in co-op or versus arenas.
So why now create a battle royale after all these years? It would feel like it's significantly lagging behind, considering all the major releases of the genre. We can't precisely answer that question, considering we don't know too much about the game yet. All we can do is pick about the previews and the media we've been given already. Are they making a compelling argument for MultiVersus?
An Unlikely Team
Would you be able to identify characters in the Warner Bros. universe if you were asked? You'd probably be able to get some, but others may surprise you. It seems like the developers are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find some playable characters in what they are making out to be their battle arena epic.
While we haven't seen any gameplay in action yet, we get the gist of who we'll be playing as. Take on the roles of Harley Quinn, Shaggy, Batman, Tom and Jerry, Superman, and more - and pair up with a friend to get your fight on. As bizarre as that sounds, the concept at least is one that you would want to give a try. So what about the battle mechanics?
At the moment, we'd think MultiVersus looks very similar to other battle royale games. However, the interface looks like you can level up characters and introduce new abilities to them, which would be a unique addition. Not to mention that all playable fighters will have customization elements behind them, which could give players an incentive to work for cosmetic rewards.
There's just not enough to go on about MultiVersus at the moment to form a definitive opinion on the game. There seem to be missing links out of the who, why, or when. The visuals suggest the game would be targeted at a younger audience. However, the intricate-looking gameplay would say a broader audience. We simply don't know yet!
Team Building Exercise
Initial impressions of MultiVersus suggest that this battle royale would be severely lackluster compared to games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It's too early to make assumptions, though. We need to see more on whether the game will turn the genre on its head - but the currently available media would point to, no, it won't.
At the very least, many players will be intrigued to see how the game will pan out against a more impressive roster of characters, character development mechanics, and cartoony visuals. To be honest, I am one of those who look forward to seeing what MultiVersus will offer. Until we see more, we'll have to keep scratching our chins.
