My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie's Party

If you are after a fun time that doesn’t ask too much of your mental faculties then you are after My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie’s Party. This game is not hard and that is okay, it offers a simple and enjoyable ride that is easy on the mind. This classic game has players take on the role of prolific pony Pinkie Pie as she navigates Ponyville and engages in an interesting adventure throughout the many activities before her birthday soiree. If you are looking for a game that doesn’t tax you too much, or is best suited for younger audiences, then here’s what you need.

Gameplay

There is a fair amount of variety when it comes to the gameplay of this title. For the most part its rhythm-based games but there is a puzzle aspect that features prominently too.

While Pinkie Pie is traversing the town, she is able to converse with many of the other ponies there and engage in activities. This can be a Dance Dance Revolution style game, a Guitar Hero style game with wind chimes, a game where you bring buckets of water to a field where a pony is growing flowers, and much, much more. Everything done in the game is to find and receive the hidden presents, which are gifted as rewards.

Although the games are not particularly difficult in any way shape or form, they do provide an interesting gameplay diversity not found in many games.

Story

The story of this game is very simple. You play as Pinkie Pie who has had all of her presents hidden before her birthday party. Somehow, she is not furious at this sudden turn of events and instead gleefully departs to collect all the hidden gifts. Although it is alien to me that anyone should do this much work on their birthday, Pinky has a great time chatting with the other ponies and partaking in minigames and even gardening throughout the day.

Music

The music of this title is pretty good. There are a few spoken voice lines as well which blew my mind, but there is plenty of music dotted all throughout. Be it while you’re playing a minigame or just mooching around Ponyville cruising for gifts, there is always a pleasant musical atmosphere throughout.

Visuals

Designed for a console older than a lot of people reading this review, My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie’s Party offers a colorful and inoffensive aesthetic. The world might not be very expansive but it doesn’t feel all that closed off with the sprawling fields in the background and, what looks to be, a large castle. There is a lot of joy to be seen throughout, that is something I found to be synonymous with the My Little Pony world and something that certainly comes across in this game.
