Noun Town Language Learning

Noun Town Language Learning may not exactly roll off the tongue, but this is one of the coolest educational titles I have seen in a very long time. The idea here is that you learn by playing and I can tell you right now that this works. Many years ago I wanted to learn French and used a Nintendo DS game to do so and it clicked for me so much better than just using a book or attending a class, although, I will admit I still did attend a class, but I still think that playing a video game is ultimately what helped me learn.

Playing Through Learning

What I think makes Noun Town Language Learning so great is that this is something that can be enjoyed by anyone, no matter their age, skill level, or even what they want to learn a new language for. If you are going on vacation to somewhere like Mexico and want to learn Spanish, this is a fun way for you to do so. If you have a child that you want to help learn a new language, but in a fun way, this is perfect! You can pick your starting level so it is an experienced more tailored to you.

Building A World As You Go

One of the things that I think will help gamers really embrace Noun Town Language Learning is that we have an actual video game that this teaching tool is built around. There is a clear progression and story here that is basically about us trying to bring back color to this world and we do that with our conversations with the rather quirky people that live here. It is a fun way to kind of trick you into learning and for me personally, I think this is what really makes the stuff you are learning here click the way that it does. The bright and colorful presentation also helps stimulate the mind and aid you in having fun as you play too.

The Native Tongue

Now remember how I said I had to use a class as well as that Nintendo DS game to learn French (the game was Mind Your Language Learn French by the way)? Well, Noun Town Language Learning I feel is a little different as this game has some kind of high tech, fancy, possibly borrowed from the USS Enterprise voice recognition that allows you to engage in conversations with the colorful cast of characters in the game. Now, for me, I would still recommend trying a class at least once as it does help to speak face to face with people, but I do think this is a great way to help you build the confidence to do that.

Lucky Number Seven!

Back when I was learning French they sold the games separately, but that is not the case with Noun Town Language Learning. This game is pretty awesome as it gives you seven languages to learn which are, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. As I said, you can literally play this game knowing nothing at all and it will teach you over 1000 words and phrases that can help you hold a conversation or at the very least ask someone where the toilet is or where you can get a Pepsi!

As far as educational titles go, Noun Town Language Learning is honestly one of the best packages that I have seen. There is a demo for this and you will be amazed at just how good and fun this thing is! Honestly, I have always wanted to know a bit more Spanish and I am going to play around with this and I have no doubts at all that it will improve my Spanish. No matter if this is for a vacation, school, or even work, this will help you learn a new language and it will also be fun in the process.

Pros:

  • This is a fun way to learn a new language
  • The demo gives you a great idea of how it all works
  • I found this to be very bright, colorful, and entertaining
  • This is suitable for everyone, no matter their age or understanding of a foreign language already!

Cons:

  • Some of the mini-games that make up the teaching are more fun than others
  • I still think a bit of face to face with someone is needed
