Phantom Breaker: Omnia

What we have here with Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a remaster of a game that was already remastered! The game was originally released for the Xbox 360 around ten years ago and now it is back with the best version of it possible. Bringing the past content, new visuals, and a few new characters and tricks that make it one of the best 2D one-on-one fighting games to be released this year.

The Phantom!

These days fighting games try really hard with their plot and I think that Phantom Breaker: Omnia has a pretty interesting, anime-style plot. There is this mysterious individual called The Phantom who comes to Tokyo.

He manages to convince the youth of Tokyo to fight each other with these mystical weapons that he grants them, he promises the one who stands at the end will be greatly rewarded. Of course, this is a big con and the twist is that these weapons will mess with the space time continuum, open up another dimension and make it so The Phantom has full access to his powers!

Like Watching A Show

We live in a golden age of anime style 2D fighting games and back when this was first released it was a real looker. With Phantom Breaker: Omnia, they have touched up the visuals and it is hard to imagine the game looking any better than it does here in this release. The characters have excellent animation, the special moves are crazy and there are tons of special effects. It is all wrapped up with a rocking soundtrack and excellent voice acting, this version actually has English voice acting which is a first for the series.

Fight How You Want To Fight

One of the things that I feel Phantom Breaker: Omnia does very well is be accessible, but also deep. You have a large roster of 20 characters, a couple of whom are brand new to this game. You have three different fighting styles to select from, depending on what kind of challenge you want. One of these, Omnia was newly created for this game, the whole game has had a lot of work done on it to make it much more rebalanced and more about skill than being lucky or finding a cheap exploit.

It Is All Here!

This game is stacked with content, you get all of the content that came with the first two releases of this game, but you also have the new stuff which was made exclusively for Phantom Breaker: Omnia as well. The rebalancing I feel is more than enough to make this worth checking out, it makes it like a new and better game.

Pros:

• This game looks like an anime
• It has a very impressive roster of characters
• I liked how accessible the combat was
• It has a fantastic story for a fighting game

Cons:

• The English voice acting may not be to everyone’s taste
• No word on when the final version will actually be released
