Party games, who said they were a thing of the past? Well Rebuilt Games didn’t when they released Pummel Party in 2018. A multiplayer couch co-op titan of party playing fun that’s sure to ruin a friendship or two. An awesome selection of mini-games awaits for any willing to put their friendship to the test but with that said, thanks to bots, you don’t need any friends.
Gameplay
This is a party game, meaning it has several different game types scattered all throughout. There are a bunch of maps and differing game modes available but the objective is always the same, beat out your competition and emerge the only survivor and victor. It’s a bit like a far more brutal and engaging version of Super Mario Party.
There are game types like where you surf around on a hover board and leave behind TRON light cycle like beams that destroy your enemies if they collide with it. There’s downright combat options where you can eliminate other members of the games through shooter style games and you can even attack them during the board game section. It’s really fun and an interesting take on the formula.
Also, one thing that can truly be appreciated is the Minigame mode, where you don’t have to bother with the larger board mode with the tiles and the moving. It lets you jump straight into the minigames and get to the meat of the meal with ease.
Art Style
The art style to this title is simplistic but it effectively portrays everything that it needs to in a charming and efficient way. Devised with a primarily ‘polygonal’ look, it lends credence to a sharper aesthetic, akin to something like Human Fall Flat, where it is clear to define what you are looking at and provides a great amount of depth alongside shadows and moving environments. These are all small things but they each lend a lot to the ‘shine’ of the game, making it incredibly easy to look at.
Multiplayer
As you would expect from a party game, this title is multiplayer, this means you can jump into the madness with a friend and experience everything it has to offer and see how long your friendships lasts. However, if you aren’t in the mood for playing with friends, or would like to get some practice in before you battle the boys; you are able to play with bots instead, these are clever little AI programs that simulate enemies and can give a great gaming experience all by themselves.
This amusing little game is an incredible amount of fun and was a thorough joy to play. If you’re looking for something to play with friends then look no further as this game should find itself a mainstay in your selection.
