Skyrim Souls Hardcore

As the title Skyrim Souls Hardcore suggests, this is a mod for the original game that has been released on so many systems that the amount I have in my collection is freaking crazy! I do not know what it is about this game, but whenever it is released on a new system, I pick it up. Even though it is always the PC version of the game I will play because of the fun mods you can get like this one here. Now, you will need the original game and a way to put the mod into it, but that is way easier than you would think and if I can do it, anyone can!

Hardcore To The Max

Look, let me tell you right off the bat that this Skyrim Souls Hardcore mod is for a really specific kind of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fan. I have played through this game on five systems in its “normal” configuration and can pretty much blow right through it. The idea of this is to make it super challenging for players that are already super skilled at the game and are looking for that extra bit of challenge. I think the clever thing here is that the challenge, while brutal does feel fair.

A Real Brutal Adventure

The list of stuff that Skyrim Souls Hardcore has tinkered with is truly amazing and the moder who did this did a fantastic job. Stuff like making it harder for you to get around as you can no longer carry as much weight and there being no fast travel at all in the game makes getting around much more challenging. Some of the perks have been adjusted to, making leveling up more challenging. Actually, the whole progress of the game has been worked on so that just generally leveling up takes a long time. I will admit, that I can see some people being turned off by this, finding it more of a chore than fun. However, if you are a Skyrim expert and want that extra level (or ten levels!) of challenge, you are exactly who this is aimed at.

Making The Most Of What You Have

One part of Skyrim Souls Hardcore that makes the game more difficult, but also did a good job of making me feel like I was a real adventurer was the way you get loot, weapons, and so on. Most of the really good stuff is locked behind a level, meaning you have to level up before you can get some of the better items. The various vendors that you come across tend to have completely different items and there is a real randomness about it too. I liked this aspect of the game as you never knew what to expect and finding a weapon that you loved to use in the base game is now locked behind a higher level, forcing you to get out there and really do some grinding.

Pros:

• This is a very challenging way to experience Skyrim
• The way it forces you to be a higher level to get stuff adds to the adventure
• It is very difficult, but I would not say it is unfair
• As you get stronger and get better stuff, you feel like a really badass

Cons:

• I am sure most people will play this, like it, but then have a breaking point and just quit
• Some may find this more frustrating than fun

While I do not usually like to give a mod its own review, Skyrim Souls Hardcore is a mod that I have spent a great deal of time with and wanted to share with you guys. As crazy as this sounds including PC, I have six versions of Skyrim in my collection! It is a game that I know very well and I have had a lot of fun playing around with the various mods that have been released for it by the very talented community that is out there. I wanted to share this one with you as well as look at some of the main features it is offering to make your Skyrim experience even more challenging.

What Is The Point?

The point of the Skyrim Souls Hardcore is to make the game a much more hardcore experience. Some of us have played through Skyrim a million times and this mod is going to make it much more challenging for you. The cool thing about it is that the person behind the mod has not just done this to make it “frustratingly difficult” the reason they have done it is to make the game feel more rewarding to the player. It is a mod that is aimed at skilled adventurers and those who feel that they are experts in everything Skyrim.

Welcome To My Store

The way that Skyrim Souls Hardcore deals with vendors is radically different from the base game. You can no longer pretty much buy what you want no matter the level you are at. Some items are locked behind a certain level. There is more randomness to the weapons and items that vendors will have. Items are now rarer and rare and more useful and powerful weapons and items are even rarer still!

You May Have To Wait A Little Longer

Loot has also been changed in this mod. Skyrim Souls Hardcore has changed the level required to get certain types of loot. This will make the early part of the game that much more challenging. For example, in the base game, you can get hunting bows from level 1, here it is level 3. Steel weapons that were once available at level 1 are now not available until level 6. Having to really work hard in the early part of the game with not-so-great stuff is one of the things that makes this a much more challenging experience.

Skyrim, But Not As You Know It

Honestly, it would be impossible for me to list all of the hardcore changes that Skyrim Souls Hardcore mod has made to the game, but I did want to talk about a few that I noticed and felt that made a rather big difference to the game. To start with the smithing tree perk has been completely redone and you now have a weapons and armor branch instead of light and heavy. Fast travel is no longer an option, you can carry less weight and the general leveling up has been slowed down. These make progressing in the game much harder and force you to think before heading out on a quest.

Pros:

• This is the most difficult mod for Skyrim I have played
• While it is difficult, if you are skilled, it is certainly doable
• I like the changes made to the smithing system of the game
• It makes for a more rewarding experience when you do progress in the game

Cons:

• This may be too tough for some people to actually find fun
• It has been reported that it does not work all that well with certain versions of Skyrim
