Now and then, you're warped in by an alternative historical concept so outlandish that you are more interested in the lore than prospective gameplay. Steelrising is one of those games where the esoteric spin on one of French history's most significant events. It catches attention and intrigues more from the ideas supporting the site's universe.
The upcoming title is a dive into a world where the French Revolution was suppressed, and mechanical soldiers developed by inspired engineers can only save it. The concept is wacky, but it certainly sets the scene for what could be a very immersive action RPG game. Let's preview Steelrising to grasp what this upcoming game will offer.
Vive le Machine!
So let's enter a world where things didn't exactly go to plan in the people's famous French Revolution. King Louis XVI used a legion of special mechanical soldiers known as automatons to fight back the storm. He wants to maintain his unpopular, bloody reign, putting the city of Paris into a chokehold. Now, the city burns, and something must be done to end his tyranny.
You have to fight fire with fire, or so they say. You'll play as Aegis, a mechanical soldier designed to take on the legions of foes that the mad king has guarding the city and his rule. So what will you find as you traverse the 18th-century French urban landscape? So far, it feels like a pretty standard action RPG with a rich lore platforming all the aesthetics.
First, the visuals are magnificent, blending steampunk culture with revolutionary Paris, immersing players into their game. We have yet to see the full extent of mechanics and combat. Still, the real-time action paired with progressing abilities seems to set the tone even further. The gameplay doesn't look anything outside the norm regarding its genre. But there's an aura of excitement about Steelrising.
Paris is your playground, the story is unique, and there's enough mechanical flexibility to make the game your own. There's not much more you could ask for in an RPG, so we have to await the complete package of Steelrising and see if it delivers on our expectations. If the first cinematic and gameplay trailers are anything to go by, we're in for a wild ride!
Hail to the Mad King
As mentioned earlier, the gameplay of Steelrising seems like it's a standard mechanical effort of a traditional action RPG. You get the feeling of NieR: Automata in a French revolutionary setting. But the alternative history lore is proving to be the winner here. Although the game may be mechanically similar to most action RPGs, most players will be intrigued by the world around them.
On that note, there's plenty to look forward to in Steelrising. We're curious to discover more about this bizarre alternative universe and how the story plays out in the people fighting the aristocracy of France. We'll keep a close eye on its developments for the upcoming full release.
