Are you bored of modern games and are looking for something new and thrilling? If so, then consider checking out Strangeland, a game with an enthralling narrative that takes you on a unique horror-like adventure through a nightmarish carnival setting. Be warned though as this game isn’t for the faint of heart and can occasionally get pretty horrific.
A twisted carnival setting
In Strangeland, you find yourself in a surreal run-down carnival environment with no idea about how you got there. It’s up to you to figure out the mystery behind everything, so get ready to explore the creepy surroundings and interact with some strange characters on your quest for answers.
A point-and-click adventure
Strangeland is a point-and-click adventure game, meaning you move around the world and interact with objects and characters by clicking around the screen. It’s a relatively simple gameplay style but don’t let that put you off the game, because the lack of complex game mechanics is more than made up for by the gripping story, breathtaking visuals, and intriguing puzzles. One great thing about the puzzles is that they have different solutions, so you’ll be able to replay the game and try new puzzles each time. This is a pretty cool feature and adds to the game’s replayability.
Pixel art fills the world of Strangeland, giving the game a very retro feel and making you feel like you’ve been transported right back to the early 2000s. Even though all the characters and environments are pixelated, the level of detail is incredible, and I guarantee you’ll be impressed by it every time you enter a new area. Just be aware though that the artwork gets really frightful at times, so if that’s not something you’re into then this may not be the game for you. Spooky sounds for a spooky atmosphere
Alongside the incredible artwork you see in this game, you've also got a very well-made soundtrack that helps you feel truly immersed in the world of Strangeland. Every music track is original and was made specifically for this game, so expect to be pleasantly surprised by how well the music and visuals work together to bring about the overall spooky atmosphere. The voice acting in this game is also excellent and impressive, too, so well done to the voice actors for their excellent performances.
If you’ve ever played Primordia, this game is like a successor to that one made by the same people, and it’s just as excellent. The artwork, soundtrack, story, and puzzles all come together to make one heck of a game that is terrifying, beautiful, and thought-provoking all at the same time. You should definitely download Strangeland and give it a go at some point if you can. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
