Survival Journals

There is no shortage of zombie survival-style games, but Survival Journals is taking a different approach to things. Rather than being some kind of shooter or open-world adventure style of game. What we have here is a text-based adventure game that reminds me of something that would have been released during the 90s. it is very cool and you can check out the game for free as there is a demo on STEAM right now.

The Horde Is Coming

It is kind of hard to talk about the story that is being told here as it is different every time you play the game things are randomized. However, I can tell you that Survival Journals is about you trying to survive a zombie type apocalypse and you need to survive as there is a big horde coming and you need to make sure you are ready to bunker down in your survival bunker for when it comes.

Being The Best You

I was quite surprised at how deep the character customization aspect of Survival Journals was. You get to shape your character with various skills which gives it a kind of RPG feel which is something I like. One aspect of the character creation that is really cool is that you can pick what you did before the world got to hell. What is the big deal about this? Well, it can actually shape the way things unfold as there are certain story paths that can happen only if you had a certain occupation before the apocalypse started.

Talking Or Fighting?

In the game, you will be mainly reading text, but you get many opportunities to talk to people and move things along. What is neat about this is that in Survival Journals, you can play the game in different ways. You may just want to say screw everyone and be all for yourself so that you can survive. Or, you may want to be a bit more of a helper and try to also support others and talk to people instead of just fighting right off the bat.

Just Like The Comics

When I think of a text-based adventure game I usually think of something very basic in terms of visuals. With Survival Journals, they have actually gone that extra mile and made the game far more appealing. You can actually see your bunker and there are some interesting scenes that look like they are from a comic book.

I enjoy this style of game, but they tend to be very basic in terms of visuals, to say the least, but I do think this one is going that extra step so that it is even more engaging.

Pros:

• The way you can choose what you did before the outbreak is cool
• Plenty of ways that the story can go
• It has some interesting RPG style elements
• I like that there are actually good visuals in the game

Cons:

• If text-based adventure games are not for you, this is not going to win you over
• I do wish it was just a tad more cinematic
