The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle builds again upon a game that arguably had a rough start but has refined into one of the best MMORPGs. I've thoroughly enjoyed traversing in Tamriel, soaking in the versatility of gameplay, rich storylines, and high degrees of customization in many aspects of game life. But will this new expansion build upon what's made ESO a good game?

There is a whimper of complaints that releasing expansions every year drags down the quality of the content. Those voices became a bit louder with the previous addition. However, many enjoy the boundaries between our favorite Elder Scrolls lands, which are becoming ever smaller. No, we've got a new chunk of territory to explore in The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle!

Playing Politics

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle is one of the first expansions not to have some ethereal threat as the narrative's core. Instead, the story is based on the internal politics of the island and fractioning livelihoods threatening each other. On a positive note, the game has taken a step up in delivering a different, more compelling narrative. However, we'll argue that the game does lose its way a bit.

We get the impression that the developers are running out of ideas here. While there's a bold approach to making The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle exciting, there feels like there's forced extension for content's sake. The storyline does drag out, quests get repetitive, and sometimes there's a plain and straightforward grind.

Alas, the visuals of High Isle are beautiful. It's hard to imagine any player not enjoying scaling around the gorgeous towns and landscapes brought to life by some vibrant Breton characters. So we've got new quests, a large area to explore, and many opportunities to level your character further. The biggest question remains, is there anything unique about The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle?

Despite plenty of new content, The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle feels like the first expansion not to add gripping new features to the game. The only noticeable addition is the Tales of Tribute card game which gives a casual, competitive new dimension to regular gameplay. Other than that, players will find themselves playing the expansion purely for the narrative, aesthetics, and to max level their characters.

Ride the High Isle

It's safe to say that The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle isn't the most exciting expansion to grace the base game. However, it's a worthy addition if you enjoy the title and consistently crave more content. The reserve is a safe bet without dramatically changing gameplay, appeasing fans, and building a more fantastic world to attract new ones. That's more than you can say about World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

7

If you look at the bigger picture, The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle is another piece of the puzzle to achieve the ultimate aim of a complete Tamriel. But if you look at the meticulous details of what's on offer, the expansions don't match the stature of others. It may not be the best addition to gameplay, but we'd argue that it's certainly necessary.

Round-Up - Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • A whole new ESO aesthetic in the High Isle land
  • The Tales of Tribute is a welcome addition to the gameplay
  • Another intriguing storyline backing the content

Cons:

  • The story drags out for the sake of expanding game time
  • Some quests and objectives are bland
  • Nothing inherently changed in gameplay

Game Reviews

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle is a big addition to the popular MMORPG, where ten alien races are fighting for power on the planet Nirn. The creatures have rallied around three armies and are now trying to destroy each other on the central continent of Tamriel, province of Sirodil. The dream of the victorious clan is to enslave the civilians.

Beginning

The game begins with character customization:

  • Choice of alliance
  • Clothes
  • Paul
  • Voice
  • Name

Gameplay

When the player has created a character model, you can begin battles. The world in The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle is free - explore open locations from first or third person. The climate on the maps changes, which adds variety. The player will walk surfaces and dungeons to find new quests. Often near camps, mines, or ruins is someone who needs help. Almost every pile of stones hides a mystery. Some quests require a whole team, so you can call your friends. Four comrades play different roles:

  • Tank is the one who provokes and distracts the monsters.
  • Medic. He heals his friends
  • Two fighters. He's the one who can kill your enemies quickly with his damage upgrade.

Choose the main profession of the character to pump up skills:

  • Blacksmith will be able to build armor and small knives
  • Carpenter can make bows and shields
  • A tailor will build light clothing
  • A jeweler can create a work of art with gold or other precious metals
  • A magician can conjure up good weather
  • A caterer makes food
  • Alchemist works with potions and poisons

Details

Combat skills improve as the character encounters enemies - fighting with the sword, we get better and better at the blade and gain access to new techniques.

The High Isle add-on introduces new locations: High Isle and Amenos Island. The storyline tells how the Bretonian race lives and evolves.

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle is a cool RPG with nice and stable graphics, crafting tools and a powerful PvP mode. Fans of Guild Wars 2 will love it.
