First appearing in 2016, the latest game in the GF saga has seen way too many changes over the years. Jumping from different developers, starting with Platinum Games, to eventually end up in the hands of Cygames. Now, it is finally confirmed that the game will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC this year, including both of its game modes. Even though it isn’t that popular in the west, the Granblue Fantasy is quite a big name in the Japanese gaming market. Granblue Fantasy: Relink is still the next step in the saga for its transition from 2D to 3D. This is why the director explains that translating the beauty of the art and style from 2D to 3D has not been an easy task, but explains that they are proud of what they’ve achieved here.
But what happened with the development of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, and what’s taking so long? And even more importantly, what’s this game all about? Well, let’s talk about all this!
About the game
It will be possible to play alone to discover a new story in Zegagrande Skydom, a world of floating islands on a sea of clouds; there our story will begin with Gran or Djeeta when we find a letter from our father inviting us to travel to a legendary island. The protagonist will also cross paths with the young Lyria, capable of controlling the Primal Beasts, creatures created by the Astrals; she and our destiny will be united when Gran/Djeeta is mortally wounded and Lyria connects her life force to ours.
The world of Granblue Fantasy is home to four different races. Humans play a very important role in this society, although they apparently do not stand out for any special aspect. The Erunes are distinguished by their long ears and usually possess a great talent for magic, the Harvin's are small in size but wise and with great business acumen. Finally, the Draphs are recognizable by their horns and physical strength, so they usually work in construction or workshops.
A unique RPG
This game has a lot of new mechanics even for the entire franchise. If you're looking for the closest game you can compare Granbliue Fantasy: Relink to any other RPG the most similar game would be Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn. It's an MMO, and like the MMO version of the game, Granblue Fantasy: Relink has a huge open world where players can explore freely. There are no random encounters, and the only enemies are the ones who have appeared on the map. In both games, you could very well play them by yourself and uncover the amazing story, but it's better to play them with friends.
Of course, most of the Granblue Fantasy games can be compared at least a little to titles from the Final Fantasy series, and in some ways, they are even similar to the Dragon Quest games. So, if you want to enjoy a similar experience as those games but with a unique twist, you should definitely try out this game. as soon as you can.
Even though we've been hearing about this game's development for a while now, it all seems to point to a great game, worth playing and easily enjoyable. The visuals of the game, combined with the amazing art style, the music, and the gameplay, make this one of the best RPGs released this year.
And that's not all. Even though it may seem like just another RPG, there are a few things that set Granblue Fantasy: Relink apart from the rest. For example, the online cooperative elements, and there's much more. So, do we recommend you try out Granblue Fantasy: Relink? Absolutely, even if you're not a fan of the series.
