A party based shooter is how The Lord of the Parties was described to me and that sounded awesome. I have already spent quite a bit of time with the demo that is currently on Steam, but I wanted to get as many people to know about this game as possible. The reason for this is that there are like a million shooters released every year, but I think this one is offering something different and unique and that is what I feel makes it well worth checking out if you are a fan of shooters.
I Will Save You, Papa
What we have in terms of the setting in The Lord of the Parties is a fantasy type world and I think that works very well for the story they are trying to tell. I will say that story is not the strong point of this game, but there is more than enough here to keep you motivated to keep moving forward. We play as this plucky young girl who is setting out to try and find her dad who has gone missing.
It Is Always A Party When Everyone Is Shooting!
You may be wondering just what the heck a party shooter is. Well, let me try and explain. You control our main character, but you always have someone with you. You do not just control the main character, all the other characters and you can have up to 10, will move forward with you and shoot at the same time. It is a concept that sounds super weird, but it actually works very well. I think the moving forward and shooting aspect of the game is similar to what the classic Pocky & Rocky offered, but you are controlling a squad. There is even a bar, a blacksmith shop and so on so in general there is a lot of depth to the gameplay.
As you move forward, you can get new characters added to your party. The way that The Lord of the Parties does this is that the character who is the weakest on your team will make way for this new stronger character. You can level up characters and if you have more than one of the same characters, they can do this fusing together type thing where they become strong. There is actually way more to this than just walking forward and shooting and that is what I think is going to surprise many people about this. Yes, you are always moving forward, shooting enemies, finding stuff, and so on, but the party mechanics is very fun and interesting.
Strolling Through The Kingdom
The presentation of The Lord of the Parties is done in a kind of simplistic way and I really like that. Things are nice, bright and there is a great deal of charm and personality to the whole game. I like how there is a bit of variety to the areas that you are strolling through such as a castle, a rainy forest, a cave, and so on.
If you ask me this is one of the most charming shooter style games to be released this year. I think it is offering a fun experience, but players are probably going to be surprised at how many other gameplay mechanics are involved with this game.
While the moving and shooting aspect is what I liked best about The Lord of the Parties, I think that many others will love the management aspect and the way you improve your party just as much.
- I like the bright art style the game has
- You are always moving forward and shooting
- The shooting is far more challenging than you would think
- I like the whole party shooter thing
- The art may be a bit simplistic for some people
- I think they could have added some kind of multiplayer to the game
