Whacked! is one of those games where it looks like the developers were given few guidelines and had free reign with their creativity. Often these games are hit and miss with the audience either finding it humorous or completely idiotic but this one finds itself somewhere in the middle with some parts working well and others falling short. Although the game premise and concepts are intriguing, as a game show is recreated with bizarre contestants battling for a grand prize, the gameplay, especially in the single player mode has a few moderate drawbacks.
What Whacked! does offer is highly unique characters like a rabbit who had his feet cut off and made into key chains and an emaciated, narcoleptic guy who competes in a recliner. These characters although lacking in distinguishing gameplay attributes do offer some entertainment with their lively personalities. In addition, there are over 40 different weapons and power-ups like staple guns and exploding rubber ducks to keep things fresh.
Unfortunately, Whacked! also has a few issues that hold it back with the main problem focusing around the gameplay. It's hard to identify the specific problem but generally the gameplay is too simple as only two buttons are used: the jump and attack. These two buttons will be pressed repeatedly while playing King of the Hill, capturing 50 stars first, or even Dodgeball. Many other games will be played but the same thing happens in all of them: Get weapons and fire them at opponents. For mulitplayer matches, this can actually be entertaining for some time but the single player modes tend to get boring.
If bizarre, outlandish games are entertaining to you, this one definitely fits the bill. Be cautious before buying however as the gameplay may become dry especially if you're not planning on using the multiplayer options.
